What is the Hannibal Directive? Are you allowed to talk about the Hannibal Directive on PieFed? While you’re there, also ask if Jews learned about false flags from the Reichstag fire event, or have they ever done one before that?

No, it’s just some questions that require either previous knowledge or to investigate to know what you’re talking about.

I don’t know the answers to those questions, and given your general attitude I’m not bothered to search based on your rants.

Which instance are you referring to? Case in point, lemmy is made by rabid tankies, but you don’t have to use a tanker instance.

PieFed works the same way that Lemmy does. The software is freely available to anyone that wants to download and set up their own instances.

That’s what I was mentioning with Lemmy, the software is developed by Tankies and they run their own instance (Lemmy.ml) but anyone is free to download the software and run their own server, and that’s how you have .world, .zip, hilariouschaos.com, etc.

It’s the exact same with PieFed. The guy who runs fedinsfw.app is in no way affiliated with the creators of PieFed or any other instances. He just downloaded and installed the software.

Would you be able to elaborate on those two points?

First of all, calling Lemmy or PieFed a “forum” is a stretch of the term, just like Reddit. Even so, traditional forums have been used for porn basically as long as they have existed. Reddit owes a ton of it’s existence to porn. LemmyNSFW was a pretty big instance. It seems like a great platform for that content too. It’s easy to split content into tags or specific communities. It’s easy to host still images, text posts, gifs, full videos, pretty much anything you want.

Second, what qualities are you saying that people who use Lemmy for porn have in common with people who wear those kinds of shirts? Porn is pretty widely popular. Wearing tasteless graphic t-shirts is, in my estimation, a small sunset of the population of porn enjoyers.

First of all, calling Lemmy or PieFed a “forum” is a stretch of the term, just like

By which weird definition? They are literally open forums.

            Dictionary

            Definitions from Oxford Languages

            forum /ˈfɔːrəm/

            noun

            1.
a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.
"we hope these pages act as a forum for debate"

            > a website or web page where users can post comments about a particular issue or topic and reply to other users' postings.

traditional forums have been used for porn basically as long as they have existed.

Yeah and it has always weirded me out. It’s like those people who watch porn with their friends. Like supposedly heterosexual adult men spending their free time watching porn together? Idk man, you do you but it’s not my cup of tea. No judgement. I just don’t get it.

Yeah it’s probably good for sharing images, but… do you have a hard time finding then yourself? The internet really isn’t short for porn. Loads of sites are literally full of UHD quality videos of whatever you happen to be into.

And it’s not like it’s actually the creator posting stuff. >95% of the time at least it’s someone horny posting someone else’s picture and going “what do you like my so-and-so”.

And you really can’t argue that Lemmy is a good platform for sharing videos. It’s just not. It’s good for sharing links to videos, sure, but not videos in and of themselves.

mmy for porn have in common with people who wear those kinds of shirts

I don’t think I need to define vague associations my brain made when writing a reply on Lemmy. Hard to put a finger on it, but I’m sure you get the gist of what I meant.

But it’s just not possible to keep running an instance if the one person with full control of the infrastructure disappears; feddit.de had the same issue, and feddit.de/feddit.org was AFAIK always doing well in terms of donations.

I chose to see it as a strength as well though.

Lemmy as a whole is still very much alive. We lose servers every now and then, but no server is the whole platform.

If your server disappears, look for a new one and pick one that will fit your needs better this time. Or help pay for costs if that’s why it disappeared.

It’s a real catch-22. The ability to spin up new servers leads to plenty run by your run-of-the-mill person with some knowledge about hosting. The downside is that it’s inherently unstable due to relying on your run-of-the-mill person with some knowledge about hosting to maintain a social media server, and it’s always easier to destroy than it is to create.

Each time a server goes down, there’s some percentage of users and communities that won’t return due to the effort of relocating and starting all over. Why go through the effort of finding a new server, especially one run the way you want, and start over when the same thing could happen within a month. It’s like when a Discord server disappears, but your account gets deleted every time as well.

I think people just have to make informed desicions on what servers they pick.

Using small servers run on a raspberry pi in a shed by a single person is fine if you are that person. But if that is not your server you’re better off picking a more established server that has a more proven presence.

This problem can be solved by education.

Using the email comparison, most people would pick a provider with good reputation (hotmail, gmail, protonmail). There are plenty of shite servers out there, I’m sure. But noone picks them.

I wouldn’t say it was centralized. They repeatedly begged over and over for volunteers to help moderate and even administrate the instance. Nobody stepped up, it seems.

They reached out to the community. The community declined their requests.

One guy stepped up as an admin. It’s the owner of the new instance. He didn’t have the necessary access to go in and pay the bills or have the deep server level access to fix things that went wrong.

Never cared to filter out NSFW stuff, mostly because I didn’t want to miss non-porn nsfw posts. However, I’m pretty fed up with all the porn on Lemmy polluting my feed… especially the weird anime shit. Most of it is 1-2 posts in a brand new community. It makes blocking by community challenging.

Not for nothing but when people brag about not liking porn about blocking porn instances I just assumed they’re the biggest perverts of all. Why else would they make a big deal about it? Just like how conservatives like to joke about cucks but then they’re all into cuckolding porn. Same things with trans porn. It’s like some kind of weird post-nut guilty conscience thing. My point is there’s a lot of fucking perverts in this thread mouthing off for no reason.

Connect is an amazing app, made by my a very responsive dev from Canada. There’s no ads and it’s frequently updated, I raised a couple issues in the app community and they were fixed immediately, and it’s super customizable. I tried most of the Lemmy apps and it’s my favourite by far, oh and it also has swipe gestures that you can customize.

This is a core problem with federated software.

It’s EXTREMELY high cost compared to centralized models. The cost per user is through the roof, and larger instances (Which are still absolutely miniscule on the web) can barely stay afloat with their costs.

I have a question/concern. When I go to fedinsfw I see a lot of SFW posts there. I haven’t done much digging and I’m still a fediverse noob, are those posts showing up because fedinsfw is federated and those posts originate from elsewhere? Or are people going to fedinsfw to post non-porn? I hope people aren’t going there to post SFW stuff, I feel like we might be splitting up an already not-particularly-popular website into two websites, neither of which have a catchy name.

If you use the connect app you can block instances, and all messages from people on that instance. You can still read them if you choose to, but i usually scroll past

Welcome to a tutorial on how to block .ml on your personal account.

In the top right corner of the top of the page, there are 3 horizontal white bars. Click it.

This will open up a drop down menu. At the bottom of that menu, you will see your username. Click it.

This will open another drop down menu with 3 options. Click “Settings”.

At the top of your screen you will see 2 tabs. Click the one that says “Blocks”.

Here you will see “Block user” “Block community” and “Block instance”. Click the down arrow below “Block instance”.

This will open up a search bar. Type “lemmy.ml” and click it after it shows up.

That’s it! You’ve blocked .ml and will never see content from the instance. Now you don’t need to make a feud post every day complaining about .ml and other instances you disapprove of. Think of all the time you will save!

But wait, we aren’t done yet in this menu. Click the down arrow under “Block user”. Now type “UltraGiGaGigantic” Make sure you select my .ml account as the other ones I no longer use. Thanks, appreciate it.
