I couldn’t have said it better myself. I think Stewart has a positive effect on politics overall, even if he does drive me nuts occasionally. People shouldn’t put him on a pedestal, but similarly they shouldn’t call him full neoliberal.

Maybe they don’t want to stop attacks on US soil, maybe they’re trying to encourage them. Maybe that’s how they’ll declare a state of emergency and cancel the midterms.
I appreciate you commenting this on all relevant posts. I see almost nothing about this school bombing on the news or even on social media. We need to talk about this until the people responsible are charged with crimes.
Fair enough. I don’t agree with a lot of what you said, but I also didn’t report your post because it feels like maybe it lands in a grey area and perhaps my judgment on this is biased.
As for rule 2, I think the entire point of this rule is that there isn’t a “main” shower thought separate from anything else. The title is the shower thought, and that’s supposed to be the entire post. It seems like people break this rule constantly, but since it’s mostly harmless they’re allowed to do so. I just felt the need to say something.
This idea of “everything is political” is something I vehemently disagree with, and I think people who use this are frequently being disingenuous. They want to break the rules and this argument allows them to do so, and I’ve seen this argument used with blatantly political posts before (I’m not saying yours is blatantly political).
But I also think that sometimes current events are inherently political, or at least they are seen that way, and it seems absurd to stop people from talking about things that are happening in our world every day. I’m torn on this one.
It’s amazing how so many people blatantly break the rules of this comm. I’d say it’s most posters.

The next time I hear someone say “thank you for your service” to a veteran I am going to fucking scream. That phrase always bothered me but this bombing has made it so much worse.

Interesting. I was eating at a restaurant with my mom a few years ago and she accidentally inhaled a piece of food which had the same diameter as her esophagus. It was terrifying. She just pointed at her throat and had this look on her face like she knew she was going to die. She stood up, turned around, and I did what I thought was the heimlich maneuver. I must’ve done it right, or got lucky, but it worked flawlessly. The food came flying out. I guess we’re in that 59%.
I play Guild Wars 2, and I’m worried if I bought an OLED I would end up with the UI permanently burned in. The technology just doesn’t seem compatible with games that feature a persistent UI.
I have a conflicted view of Netflix. They’re a classic big American corporation and come with all the bullshit that entails, but at the same time they do occasionally do some cool things.
Like releasing queer content despite the backlash from the right. They released that “gay boot camp” series recently and it absolutely enraged right wing bigots. This thing with blender is another example.
I am very nervous about their Warner Brothers purchase and am hoping they prove to be responsible owners of all those IP’s. It seems quite unlikely, though. There are so few American corporations who aren’t shitty.

Only 1% of the corn grown in the US is eaten by people. Most of it is used as animal feed (which is catastrophic on their systems as their stomachs aren’t designed to digest corn, so their corn diet slowly kills them) and a large portion is made into ethanol and added to gasoline. The corn subsidies are so dumb that they require a minimum amount of the corn being grown to be turned into ethanol, which is extremely inefficient.

The rules in this comm are routinely ignored and it doesn’t seem like the mods enforce them. Why even have a “no politics” rule in the sidebar if they’re not going to take these posts down?
