  • Probably not the place for it, but I’d be good with YouTube dying. And I’m someone who pays for YT Premium (gasp!).

Something will take it’s place, something better. I think about what it would take to scale to YT’s size from an infrastructure standpoint and the only thing close, I think, are porn sites.

How great would it be to have HubHomez by PornHub as a YT alternative. Need to work on the branding a bit but I don’t care about the platform. I’ll follow the creators to StreamyFling, a collaboration of xHamster and xvideos. Same infrastructure, different content.

C’mon porn sites. Do it. Do it.

  • I’m with you, but playing devil’s advocate… A hydraulic brake line can be damaged in an accident as well. Simple brakes with a proportioning valve or similar mechanism likey doubles your redundancy for most failures of downstream brake components but that’s not guaranteed.

It does say electric motors are a part of the system which could be like the electronic parking brakes in many modern cars. Maybe they default to a closed/braking condition if power is lost?

I will not be the one risking my life or my family’s life or the lives of other families to be an early adopter of this tech, but it could work with rigorous engineering and testing.

  • That’s why I love Lemmy. Here you have a higher chance of having nuanced and intelligent conversations with strangers than on any other social media. Written communication still has challenges with nuance and you’ll always have reactionary trolls, but far better odds here.

That’s why when I see posts like, “How do we get more users on the Fediverse? Grow or die!” I tend to chime in to keep their goddamn hands off the last place on the internet where these kinds of genuine interactions with strangers can happen.

  • Don’t you dare suggest FreeCAD.

I have a Hope/Hate relationship with FreeCAD. Sometimes I can get it to do something useful and I get hopeful. Then I try to do something simple and ruin the entire design and have to start from scratch and I curse the developers lineage for all of time. I want it to be great, and it is closer than it has ever been. But it isn’t a replacement for professional design suites.
