I don’t see why not!

Yes, I get lab burnout. I do not want to be fiddling with stuff after my day job. You should give yourself a break and do something else after hours, my dude.
BUT
I do not miss GUIs. Containers are a massive win in terms because they are declarative, reproducible, and can be version controlled.

Docker in and of itself is not the problem here, from my understanding. You can and should trim the container down.
Also it’s not a “whole nested computer”, like a virtual machine. It’s only everything above the kernel, because it shares its kernel with the host. This makes them pretty lightweight.
It’s sometimes even sometimes useful to run Rust or C++ code in a Docker container, for portability, provided you of course do it right. For Rust, it typically requires multiple build steps to bring the container size down.
Basically, the people making these Docker containers suck donkey balls.
Containers are great. They’re a huge win in terms of portability, reproducibility, and security.

This doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not being impartial.
If a side’s position is the truth, they’re going to support impartiality, because they want the truth to be spread, which supports their side.
TikTok is probably about to start moderating heavily in favour of a pro-Israel/anti-Palestine bias, just like other Western social media platforms. It’s possible that all a startup would have to do is not do this to secure funding from Palestinian investors.
My only question is whether they’ll allow progressive types on their platform long-term.

If we were talking about stuff like healthcare, food, housing, electricity, clean water, public transit, or access to information, I’d be on the same page.
But this is a luxury hobby. And with luxury hobbies, there’s usually some flexibility. You don’t need a high-end PC to play games. You can run plenty on a lower-end setup, try different genres, or even step away from PC gaming altogether.
You could have friends over for a tabletop game, go for a run, hit the gym, or try something like rock climbing. There are lots of ways to spend your time without needing top-tier gear

You’ve been living the dream, my friend.

What clients exist for Firefox on a computer? Because I blocked Lemmy on my phone for a good reason (I was browsing it too often).

I primarily browse through All, that’s why. Otherwise that would be a pretty good suggestion.

Oh I see the disconnect. I primarily browse Lemmy through the all page, because I wanted my subscribe community list to be a small selection of communities I really like. I also want to stay up to date on new communities when they appear.

That’s unfair. I read The Guardian and the Australian Broadcasting Channel every day, and routinely check the Wikipedia Current Events page. I am up to date with the news. But I don’t come to Lemmy to get even more news about the fascist US, and their effects on the world.
Being surrounded by it all day affects my headspace, and I’m aware of that. It’s not weakness that I protect myself.
Now kindly fuck off.

Be the change you want to see ✨
