Well, be prepared to be flipped off a lot. It’s what I did whenever Instagram or Facebook asked for a video verification of sorts.

Easy in theory to nope out of such insanity with their websites and optional apps. Except for Android users… where every “fuck Google!” cry meets the reality of a captive audience.

(Apple is no better and third-party OS’s tend to break banking, government, etc, apps. 😬)

The tech giant says the system only analyzes hand-movement points from a short video, does not record audio, and deletes the footage after verification.

It’s just a short video guys, there’s even no audio! And they pinky promise to delete it.

What a fucking shitshow that is. Like, honestly, I’m fine with regular captchas, even if they are the shitty ones. The newer (?) captchas that force you to do solve 5 bullshit “place this there” captchas are already reason enough for me to just leave the site. But if you force me to record a video of me throwing gang signs at the camera, probably several times again, because the movement was not correctly identified, I’m sure as fuck to never visit anything related to you ever again.

I also love the irony that Google fights people bots, while they are scraping the whole internet and investing into AI automation massively.

You just know that video is going to be turned into training data of some kind or another. I think visual and audio versions will be around forever, and I hear that you can enter inaccurate words in the audio prompt and still get through. Might as well train it funny if you must train it at all.

Yes exactly. They’ll delete the video after making a detailed statistical model of it so they can use that for an AI that allows them to create an infinite number of videos that are visually indistinguishable from the original, but that are legally distinct and fair use of your original video, which they dutifully deleted exactly as they promised, for legal purposes. If you disagree or have any concerns with any part of this statement, you are welcome to file your complaint in the legal jurisdiction that Google has authorized you to use in their terms of service that you agreed to without reading, and their department of lawyers will be happy to assist you for decades.
