Protesters staunchly oppose the Strait of Messina Bridge project over its scale, earthquake threats, environmental impact and the specter of mafia interference.
Apparently the bridge thing is something the Italian right keeps calling for despite every expert worth their salt agreeing it’s a terrible idea.

Mafia interference? In Italy? I thought they defeated them and corruption as well?
Sicily is kinda it’s own thing, and basically where most of the Italian Mafia is from.

When I saw this story last week, I had the same thought process. Like, why wouldn’t they? It’s such a short gap and could be huge for normal people.
