  • If you called a taxi company that didnt do fixed rates you should have looked into them before you called. If you consider a ride “mooching” I would not want to be your friend. If your public transit isnt good enough, call your local reps and COMPLAIN.

Fuck this culture of “tipping”. I wouldnt have to fucking tip if they paid their drivers. Do you tip in cash on Uber? The driver won’t know that until they get there and you just look like a low-pay customer. Do you tip in the app? Congrats, you just tipped uber. The driver may or may not receive it. Do you verify with each driver to make sure they end up getting the money? Uber has obfuscated tipping for drivers FOR YEARS.

  • I don’t jump into other peoples lives. The example I gave is something that was brought up in person due to its relation to the conversation being had. I also feel like “shit[ting] all over what little brings them joy” is a bit of an over simplification. If what’s bringing them joy is also indirectly harming them, I feel like it should be discussed provided its on topic and not brought up out of the blue for no reason. To give a very simplistic broad example, asbestos. It was used for years as insulation, and contractors swore by it. New research comes out that says exposure gives you cancer. Do we ignore the fact asbestos gives you cancer, just because people are already using it and find it useful in their workflow? To bring it back to the original example, do we let people who identify as allies and/or queer continue to financially support chick-fil-a just because they can’t easily get a replacement that’s morally sound?

I get it, people should be allowed to enjoy their hobbies, their indulgences, and their worldly surroundings. I don’t disagree with that. People who bring up the fact that sometimes those things may be harmful and alternatives should be found should not be shamed though. That is unless they’re being a dick about it, or bringing it up constantly to the same person who doesn’t want to hear it. In which case, queue the definition of insanity script.

edit: thinking about it, you probably were talking about people on the fediverse doing this out of turn and not the example I was thinking of.

  • In the linked post, I can definitely agree that a lot of people here seem to be arguing in bad faith, and Ive seen it from various instances, not just the tankie traid (although I won’t deny they are a part of it). For myself, I dont know how to tell the “subtle” trolls apart from people who are really just misinformed. I dont like assuming everyone knows everything and is purposefully trying to get a rise out of me. I do know I sit and think before I post, and sometimes I’ll write a post or a comment, and sit on it and end up deleting it because I feel it isnt worth having to interact with someone who could be trolling, but I feel like I still end up arguing with people who are as the OOP put it, arguing in bad faith, talking in absolutes, and calling for violence. I dont really know how to approach it because I do use reporting sometimes, although 9 times out of 10 it feels like nothing comes of it. Just a shitty situation.
