I for one am very thankful for our beautiful Democratic Party, which while all this craziness has entered a fever pitch, they have been loudly and boldly speaking out against this every minute of the day and not focusing on unimportant matters like trying to trash talk Hasan Piker and taking personal vacations to the beach.
The entire world (other than Yemen) stood by while the US and Israel committed a genocide of hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza. Countries not particularly friendly to either country sent strongly-worded letters but not much more. Allies of the US/Israel actively went along with it and focused on crushing dissent inside their own borders. Then you have other events like trying to literally starve Cuba for no reason other than they looked at us kinda funny… and still the rest of the world does nothing. This is the prior information Trump and Netanyahu are working with. Would it not be entirely rational for the two of them to conclude that they can nuke Tehran and they won’t face any real consequences either domestically or abroad?

It’s a good thing first and foremost because tariffs have been Trump’s #1 tool to bully other nations into bending to his will.
I believe the reason Labour in the UK, SPD in Germany, the Democrats in the US, etc etc are so hated at this moment is not because they are “too woke”, but rather because when they have been in power, they have done nothing to help alleviate the material issues that the people face. The answer to defeat the rising fascist tide is right there for the left: do things that help the working class in their material circumstances and tell billionaires to fuck off. And yet (so far) they seem incapable of doing so. I hope for success in places like Portugal and France and then that can be a model for everyone else.

The United States is attempting to corner the global fossil fuel market. The correct response here is the very thing that will mitigate the impact of climate change: pursue renewable energy.
I think this is often the case with Trump. However, when this does happen, at some point along the way there’s usually hints dropped about what kind of “deal” could be made (like agreeing to buy a bunch of US military equipment). But with Greenland, there has been no indication at all that Trump is interested in budging from full ownership of the island.
They know just how bad it will look and how unpopular it will be if they just take Greenland by force. They’re trying to convince the Danes to sell it under duress to give it a veneer of legitimacy.
This seems like a much more reasonable, enforceable, and frankly more effective approach. It also seems more in line with respecting personal freedoms to do things even that harm yourself so long as no one else is being harmed.
I am a tankie - literally as far from a libertarian as you can get - and even I am struck by the seeming lack of concern over stripping away the freedoms of one demographic in particular. Honestly I’d prefer to see cigarettes banned outright than to say some people can buy them while others can’t. Gonna be weird in like 2050 when a 43 year old can buy smokes but a 42 year old can’t.
