Nobody is “putting up with snail-speed internet” here. The problem is that there really is nothing for me to do to get fiber or higher mobile speeds. I can even see a mobile tower from here and it still is slow.

I’m not really sure here - I just did the setup and you literally paste one command into your terminal. There you’ll find the Jellyfin IP and port, visit it in a browser and you’ll get a simple wizard which guides you into setting up your libraries. I’m actually shocked how different this case is being reported than others. Some migrant with psychological problems is killing people with knifes or his car? This is headline news for days. A german serial killer being discovered who killed 9 people? Nobody really cares as if old people are not real people or so.
So if you start your work life at 16 and retire at 67, that will give you 51 years working, 14,5 years in retirement and 16 years as a child. That is the “best” case here in Germany, most people won’t work that long, other countries have lower retirement ages and many people are doing additional schooling and university. But even that means that you have to put away / pay into retirement fund 14,5/51 = 28% of your income during your work life to support your retirement.
