GoToSocial works without problems on Podman, they probably just meant that they can’t give technical support for it.
👍 for hosting a xmpp server. Next step is to get a real domain name!

They even have their own fake crypto-coin!
This is like a full set of bullshit bingo on one page 🤦♂️
For anyone expecting an article behind the link, don’t bother clicking 🤦♂️
The “no-alternative” BS is really tiresome. Of course there are alternatives and plenty of them 🤦♂️
I find Cheogram and Monocles to be good looking and featureful clients, so not sure what exactly you mean. They are certainly not any worse than WhatsApp, Threema or Signal in that regard.
On iOS I agree though… Monal is not bad per se, but it needs some work on the UI side of things.
XMPP is best for that IMHO.
You know that even Synapse is not following the specs? Basically the specs follow Synapse, often with a huge time lag.
Conduit has been hit by that many times when they tried to follow the specs, just to realize they are outdated and incompatible with Synapse.
Good time to switch to XMPP 😅
Technically it is possible, and I have heard rumors about some eastern European providers given unique public IPs on request, but practically no, not possible/available.
Basically a VPN where the endpoint is a VPS or a specialized service that offers a public IP.
For public services you will need some kind of tunnel, as cellular networks or Starlink will not provide you with a public IP. Otherwise no big issue with an ARM SBC and a somewhat decent battery.
Not very convincing. Tariffs mainly hurt yourself, and if you exclude pretty much the only things the EU is actually importing from the US like the author suggest they are also meaningless.
Anti-coercive efforts that hit US big tech services I can get behind, because regardless of the outcome it will be good to reduce reliance on those.
The commonly shared software by all ATMs in Portugal is very cool too though. Lots of additional features like charging your prepaid sim or even paying your taxes too.
How is that pronounced btw? I always used “eutel-sat”, but now it occured to me that “e-u-tel-sat” is more likely to be correct?
The base consumer models from regular brands usually have no write cache and are thus cheaper, and obviously slower, but for data storage that doesn’t matter so much.
But you can also look into 2.5" HDDs if you are looking for power savings and noise reduction over regular HDDs.
Seems to confirm what I said. And Germany is literally discussing non-defense spending infrastructure projects that aid defense projects right now, so this isn’t much different from what those experts are saying about China.
There are generalized benefits from learning a language that will make it easier to learn other languages. But which language doesn’t really matter, and learning a dead or artificial language might have some theoretical benefits in that regard, but in practical terms you will learn less of it as there is less material to practice on and in general the motivation to learn a language you can barely use will be low for most people.
I personally think it is more worthwhile to spend learning another EU language. The general benefit of better understanding how languages work will be the same, but you end up with a practical language skill. I am a bit tired of the argument anyways, having had to learn Latin with the exact same argument and it was a complete waste of time.
Yes, but EU defense spending now is a hundred billion higher and is projected to increase by another hundred billion by 2027. That double of what China is currently spending, and AFAIK they don’t have plans to increase it by that much.
This should honestly extend to network attached devices in general. Way too many depend on some cloud service and are utterly useless without it.
