Well... that didn't last long. Just a day after Cyprus was preparing to say goodbye to parents' names on new biometric ID cards, the government has hit reverse.
I really doubt that - it totally makes sense to not have that. And there will be many cases where children do not want everybody to know who their parents are. They might be the children of some celebrity. Or some known murderer. Or just want to cut the contact with some notoriously difficult parents.
