Firefox says it will keep supporting uBlock Origin even as Microsoft Edge and other Chromium browsers phase it out under Manifest V3.
I don’t understand. It’s still working for me on an up-to-date Brave.
For everyone using Firefox, are you using it with microG or some type of sandbox? Even when going private, you can’t download it unless you have Google Play services on mobile. Ive tried to see if it works without google and unfortunately it dosent. If that’s the case for mobile, then technically we really shouldn’t be using it either.
There are those of us who are using Firefox on the desktop. No Google Play anywhere in sight. And on the phone I am one of the odd ones using the Gecko engine based native Sailfish OS browser.
I use one of the forks on f-droid.
Hopefully ladybird finalizes some day, so we have more options than one

We should introduce Manifest V4 that would undo all damage V3 did.
uBlock origin lite still works fine and is good enough for me and most others
Helium and other Chromium derivatives still support it, so this title isn’t entirely accurate.
Sadly vanilla FF has embraced AI slop and set Google as their default search engine, show ads until you disable the function etc. So i guess the moral of the story is to not use default browsers.
Would Mozilla even exist without all the Google money over the years?
I switched back to Firefox vanilla after years of Chrome. Can you, or other power users, suggest alternate versions of FF/ other plugins more advanced or useful than Ublock? I haven’t had the time/energy to dig for it and would appreciate an upgrade path to get me up to date with privacy and more advanced ad blocking.

If you’re looking for a FF derivative then LibreWolf as folk below suggested. Otherwise I’d highly recommend Helium – chromium based so compatibility is better, and it’s just a batteries included ungoogled chromium, meaning it’s completely (?) degoogled.
Librewolf is your best bet for privacy and security. I like zen too though

QoL extensions I use on top of uBlock:
- Consent-O-Matic (auto denies those annoying “our 500 partners would like your data” popupd)
- FastForward (skips link shorteners)
- DeArrow (honest yt titles and thumbnails)
- SponsorBlock (skips sponsors in yt)
- Tamper-/Greasemonkey (various userscripts)
- Password manager of choice extension (Bitwarden for me)
- Dark Reader (dark mode sites without dark mode)

Sorry to be a debbie downer but I have grave concerns about the long term viability of firefox.
Sites obviously don’t test against ff anymore with more and more bugs appearing in more and more sites.
I have to daily drive both ungoogled-chromium and librewolf and sadly, the number of things I need to do in chromium is increasing week by week.
Interesting, I use FF as a daily driver (with uBlock, Privacy Badger, HTTPS Everywhere) and I don’t experience common issues. I’m curious where you’re seeing problems? Maybe there’s something in your extension toolchain causing it?
i also only use FF on all my devices (w/ ublock), nearly never have problems.

And in any case, lumping Firefox as one browser is disingenuous. There are numerous Firefox forks, just like every other major browser is in fact a Google Chromium fork.

Guys, just FYI - other adblocks still work. I’m using Ghostery on Vivaldi (Chromium-based) and it works perfectly fine, including blocking ads during YouTube videos.
No idea why uBlock specifically is being blocked, but it’s not like you can’t have an ad-blocker anymore.
ublock has a lite version on chrome browsers that still works. but normal ublock is much better. ubo lite and other blockers are hiding the ads, but their lists can’t be updated so quickly.
but also, ublock origin is not just an ad blocker. it is a wide range content blocker, also efficient at blocking trackers and limiting fingerprinting. the browser API limitations that make it not work on chrome also means that it can’t do all that anymore, and it is really just a cosmetic ad blocker

Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t uBlock the most capable adblock, with others coming close but not reaching it?
For one thing UBO, if you take the time to (turn on and) learn the advanced user mode, will let you customize interactions site-by-site, and remember your choices for years.EG I regulary use the zapper and eyedropper to get rid of stuff other than ads. It’s also easy to turn on/off site-by-site.

I tried browsing the internet without uBlock Origin. I hated it in 5 minutes. I’m not going back to there anytime again. If your browser does not support uBlock Origin, then I am not using it.
All the other major browser has blocked it.
Well, almost all others are basically Chrome.
