Friedrich Merz said Kyiv needed to “get ahead” in the conflict after dozens were killed in Russia’s Palm Sunday attack on the Ukrainian city of Sumy, which he denounced as a “serious war crime”.
Asked if he would agree to Ukraine’s repeated plea for Germany’s long-range missiles, Mr Merz said he would do so if it were done in conjunction with allies, some of whom are already providing similar long-range weapons.
Give them the tech to build their own. Don’t have to announce in the news. Just send it.
They already can. It’s called “Neptun”. But they can’t build them fast enough, and have to keep it extremely secret since production is in range of Russian weapons.
On the matter of just sending it, I fully agree. Finland for example doesn’t say what it sends. It just says something like “we sent materials for the 40th time”.
Exactly, it has to be like Finland. there is no need to give details.
Yes there is but it’s because of German law in they regard. And as it has to be approved by a governance body in public there is no chance of obfuscating it.
Normally that is a good thing from my point of view as it prevent shady weapons deals - but this is not a normal situation :(
Some news articles are showcases of force or are meant to send a message. There’s also the fact that one can easily spot weapons being used in combat. Meaning you can send 1 of these missiles and there goes your secrecy. So not everything needs to be a secret. It’s not like they are sharing the logistics here.
More about the element of surprise is gone for that 1st use.
