The way everyone else has always understood it, “Left” was always short for “Left-wing” and is the umbrella term for everything on the left end of the political spectrum. “Liberal”, “Socialist”, “Communist”, etc, are all subsets of “Left”.
Liberalism has always included free markets and isn’t the left. It’s only the US dichotomy of liberal vs. conservative and the volume and reach their media has that confuses the issue.
No, nobody is changing the definitions, and liberal has never been part of the left. Wtf do you mean we keep changing it? Who is we? The countless books and essays and political figures from longer than I’ve been alive who are telling you that you aren’t part of the left?
