Being an artist is thankless mostly unpaid labor that enriches and improves Irish culture.
Why the fuck would we not encourage folks capable of being artists (not exactly a ubiquitous talent disposition) for some pitiful sum of money if they’re willing?
Most writers get paid nothing for their work. Even fantastic writers can barely scrape a living. Yet we love having Irish authors don’t we? Painters, likewise; musicians, doubly so.
Use your brain. This isn’t a lot of money and improves Irish society. The working class in Ireland gets paid twice as much as artists, not that I’m against UBI (I imagine they’re testing it).
Because they call themselves a name(Artists), that is why as a society we need to care for them.
Unemployed miners and factory workers are just normal boring unemployed.
