So like everyone, I got screwed waiting on buying more PC parts when I should have bought them all last year.
Now I’m wondering, do I keep waiting and hope it ever goes down, or just pay these ridiculous prices?
If I do buy now, I think I’d just spend a big chunk, because I figure it’s going to keep going up with no stopping until consumers cannot afford computers anymore.
I found this video helpful but it’s a few months old already:

Depending on your goals, you could try to find used components that are incompatible with windows 11 but still perhaps powerful enough as this guy explains:
Same question. I’ve been waiting to buy large hdds for a while.

15 years ago, I built a computer. Stocked it with all the cutting edge tech I could cram into it. Still a great computer and pretty capable.
If I were to build another, I’d do it the same way. Build it for long term service, which means you’re going to spend a bit more, but the payout is better. If you break it down, I’ve spent $.63/per day, for 15 years. Not a bad return.
Depends on what they’re for. Main computer? If so, whats it replacing spec-wise?
Depends on what you’re looking for, but for server use even a bit older hardware is just fine. My proxmox server has Xeon 2620v3 CPU and it’s plenty for my needs. For storage I went with SAS-controller, controllers are relatively cheap and if you happen to have a friend in some IT department you might get lucky when they replace hardware. RAM is a pain in the rear, but 8GB DDR4 rdimms work still just fine (if someone is interested I have few around)
Personally I wouldn’t pay current prices for new hardware, specially if it’s for hosting. A bit older, but server rated, components give a lot more value for your money.
