Just don’t check our recent political events please
Eh, I wanted to focus on the positive stuff for just a bit.
If there were people taking a walk, trees, cafés, children playing, etc on this square instead of cars, exhaust fumes and noise then it would be infinitely nicer
@jenesaisquoi This is a place where people frequently gather to protest the government, sometimes also bringing their children and pets with them (and traffic is closed when too many people are there). Don’t know if that counts, haha
My only experience with Romania is Cluj, exactly ten years ago, but even compared to Hungary I’ve felt like I’ve travelled over two decades back in time. Badly designed car infrastructure, no transit to speak of, cars on sidewalks that you need to squeeze by, restaurants that MAY have a tiny non-smoker section…
@dubyakay well, the only thing that changed radically is the smoking thing - it is now illegal to smoke in restaurants and bars and pubs. Bike, transit and cars on the sidewalk are only now being tackled. But our politicians are highly car-brained and propose all sorts of funny measures. Just as last week a draft law allowing the motorcycles to be parked on the sidewalk if it’s more than 1m wide was rejected, there’s another one proposed that allows motorcycles and scooters (not the electric ones, think of the Vespas and the likes) to have access on bus lanes too. Not to mention minors aren’t allowed to cycle until the age of 14 on public roads (which is what most of the roads are), when they can legally get their IDs. Such a normal country to live in, what can I say…
If it were a wider angle photo you’d be able to see a few cafes, a museum and a pretty big park to the left of there. Bucharest’s not the greenest city in Europe or anything but it’s definitely not as bad as it seems in the photo.
sad.
Whyyyy did they not make it symmetric to the road?!
