  • Hah, I’m not convinced that interpretation is wrong. It’s weird how influential he’s been on the world, right?

I mean if this is that sort of simulation, he’d probably be a player right? I know that as I get to the end of games, I get all the currency I’ll ever need, I have all the best items, and the whole game becomes easy, that’s about when I start becoming an asshole, testing the boundaries. Like “can I just kill this character? I’m gonna shoot them, just to see what happens. lol, the guards didn’t like that much, look at em running around… I’ll shoot them too”.

I think that’s where Elon is right now, just being an enormous asshole just to see what happens. That’s some gamer ass behavior right there!

  • The worst part is that for most of these services, the child accounts are still functionally useless for parents.

We have a kid who actively seeks out content they know they’re not allowed to watch, which means unfortunately a Netflix subscription simply won’t work for us because Netflix doesn’t allow you to actually password protect your profiles. So our kid can just select the parent profile, or make a new one if they want to watch whatever they want.

As far as I know only Disney+ (and HBO i’m told) allow you to put a login pin on parent accounts to lock kids out. That would be useful, except the Roku we use to watch things on the tv doesn’t password protect all of its channels, so we still have to be on top of him to make sure he’s staying within disney+…

I gotta be honest, I kinda miss cable tv.

  • Consumer grade Linux Mint is impossible to differentiate from Windows/MacOS.

That sure is easy to say.

In practice, I tried to use mint for the os on a family computer and just couldn’t make it work. I’ve been an IT guy for years and have tons of experience with both Windows and MacOS, but virtually none with Linux. Long story short, trying to make that machine work with Linux mint was just taking up way too much of my time. I just needed to get a few simple features out of it (and maybe 1 hard feature, parental controls). But having very little Linux experience, it just wasn’t going to happen in a reasonable time frame. I eventually had to give up and put the Mac OS back on it (an iMac).

Anyway, mint actually has a lot in common with the Mac OS, it makes a very small set of controls very easy to use. And technically, you can do just about anything else you need to with the terminal, but that can be challenging to navigate.

  • So, cyberbullying and toxic gamer communities are very much a thing and definitely a problem, but I have to admit, that story really did make day… I laughed for a while, I shared it with my neighbors, it’s still fucking funny!

You know, the thing is… the whole mess was entirely Elon’s fault. If he just wanted an escape from his stressful life, he could totally just play the game and it would work out fine for him. But because he felt the narcissistic need to live stream it (because he apparently desperately needs others to tell him how awesome he is), he got his stupid face kicked into the mud. And that’s really on him…

  • The american market? Nah, for the most part, repair parts also come from Asia.

So yes, the price of repair parts is likely to go up with these tariffs as well, but regardless repair will be the better choice. With a broken screen for example, it used to be a choice between replacing a $400 device or getting a $200 repair, now it will be a choice between an $800 device or a $300 repair. The situation definitely isn’t better for anyone, but making the right choice becomes easier.

  • There’s a simple answer to that. When many people first got started with Plex, it was awesome! Way better than xbmc! Also, jellyfin didn’t exist.

Once you’ve had things up and running smoothly for years, changing everything is a hard sell. You could spend hours setting it up, fixing little inconsistencies, manually matching titles that had weird names, etc. or you could just… not.

I hope I’ve cleared things up for you! The answer is laziness!
