Agreed! I stayed with Plex for a long time because Jellyfin had a rough time with live TV (antenna) and I already had a PlexPass because of a sale a long time ago. Now Plex is only still running because I love Plexamp.

I couldn’t agree more, I join selfhosting communities all over and not just because I need more stuff to host, because of the community. I love getting to read through the questions and answers, even when they are questions that could be answered by just reading the man page… Maybe it just reminds me of the good old days as I’m getting older and remember asking a lot of similar questions.

OAuth is one thing I hate to see locked behind a paywall; it’s one thing for the pretty, management-geared stuff (dashboards and charts) to be a paid feature, but not security.

I would put that more on the ad networks, if the ads were related to the article, it may generate a few more clicks. The ads are completely random and built off a profile they assume would contain relevant info about me… but it doesn’t really seem to be accurate (this is kind of by my own choosing though).

Instead articles about rebuilding cars should have ads related to perhaps rebuilding cars and not some fucking nutritional supplement or some other unrelated thing.

I personally like to use a proxy for that like NPM (a handy dockerized nginnx proxy setup). Not as secure as a VPN but I really like being able to access my stuff from anywhere I’m likely to be. I’ve combined it with a few other things to try and add simplicity (in use) and a little extra privacy by using Authentik for SSO. My main goal with the use of NPM though was to limit the number of ports I had punched.

I got a ‘dangerous site’ warning and then prompts for crap on my Vaultwarden instance (didn’t see it on Immich but this was a while ago). I think I had to prove I owned the domain with some DNS TXT records then let them “recheck” the domain. It seems to have worked.

I don’t know, I’ve been in some hot places but massive cooling towers tend to radiate a bit more (now I know what I’m reading about today) and a data center without the ability to pump heat outside isn’t going to make it a whole day before it’s toast.

Not necessarily disagreeing, just curious about how much heat is dispersed by the ones here.

Overall I liked a couple things I hadn’t thought of (NGOs), but the end of the article… that just sounded like any other consultancy service to me. Perhaps that’s too harsh but it doesn’t feel like a new career field (just my opinion).

Still rocking a Pebble Steel from a decade ago, I tried a fitbit and Galaxy one but this Pebble has outlived them all. Thankfully I managed to find a silicon band for it when the leather one finally gave up on me.

Years ago my neighborhood was wired for fiber, well all except for 24 of our houses because it wasn’t profitable, copper still came on our side though… Now that’s been turned off so the 24 of us have the option of cable or wireless.

Having to stare at a coil of fiber across the street on the end of the pole (not even buried fiber, its on the damn poles) while I enjoy overpaying for 48Mbps… so fast it must be high speed (seriously debated a wireless link to the house across the street but I’m a stickler for the rules).

I’m not a Bing fan either because it used to be regurgitated Google results. For now I’m just self-hosting an instance of SearXNG.

Copilot is pretty good for Azure stuff though, really I just like it because it always has links back to Microsoft’s documentation (even though it’s constantly changing).

You’re technically correct, there is no law prohibiting a current or former president from driving, but there is a policy preventing it and it is enforced by the secret service (who follow them around for the rest of their life). Many former presidents have gone on the record that the lose of their driving privileges really sucks (Bush 43, Clinton, and Obama have all discussed it on camera during various interviews). It’s been a policy since Kennedy was assassinated, lots of other policy changes too, but one was the no driving bit.

I recently did out my old 401B after the screen fell off my Galaxy Active2. It charged right up and still lasts about a week.

Finding a new band was a PITA because of the weird segmented hinge bit but one person was selling diver bands for it on Amazon (I think it was Amazon)… Really not bad for a watch from a decade ago.
