I guess you’re right, followers will automatically unfollow the old account and follow the new one too
Nothing will be moved.
Source: My old Mastodon account; The Mastodon docs (mastodocs for short)

I couldn’t do that when I moved Mastodon instances, I could only set up a notice that was little more than a built-in “Moved to x” pinned post
Don’t know about the other ones though, I have to say that

I mean, what are they supposed to do now? (other than kill themselves or become a martyr)
A lot of people aren’t gonna be willing to up and die for a cause, and I don’t feel comfortable telling anyone who isn’t willing to die potentially pointlessly that they’re bad people

I’d like to hijack the top comment to say that despite news like these, a friend of mine who’s been involved with development (interacted with developers, looked at code…) says that recent updates have made the ATProto service stack much more optimized and accessible. There’s also quite a few “Atmosphere” services already, such as leaflet.pub
And I’m gonna be honest most implementations of ActivityPub I’ve seen so far have felt more like a normal social media with a “talk to other servers!” gimmick

What? You tell me I could have actually moved all my comments, votes, saves and posting history from my old lemmy.world account to my new one?

Personally Matrix has been kind of annoying to set up. I tried it around last year and after a bunch of issues creating an account (email link wasn’t working I think) I used it for a little, then all messages became “could not decrypt” and I gave up on it

Agreed. I could only get on it after it 1. Actually started running the vast majority of video games (Wine and Proton developments mainly post-pandemic) and 2. Had decent performance thanks to Wayland (to this day KDE on X11 using my older GT1030 has embarrassing performance, but I’ve switched to an RX9060 so :3)

Hope I’m not stupid for saying this but I haven’t been able to tell the difference between DDR3 and DDR4

Barely, I’ve had to set one up for GitHub but I haven’t fully figured out what they are and what they do

It’s kinda complicated because a good chunk of that is data that is technically redownloadable, but has been tweaked (most of my movies are a multiplexed high-res eng version merged with audio from lower-res dub.) Either way, thank you for the suggestions

Idk what the heck y’all are doing to warrant worrying about your notifications, maybe I’m doing Lemmy wrong or something
I’ll be honest, despite already having a reverse proxy on my home setup I did not think of doing something like that. That sounds like a great idea
