I mean… One single country being missing from a defensive pact shouldn’t cripple the defensive pact. So that’s how it always should have been.

I have been getting the lgbt+ people in my area acquainted with firearms, and while some of them aren’t mentally in a place where they can join us, they will be protected if needed.

Already this year one of my “students” has had to defend themselves in an alley while walking home. Guy made transphobic comments, waited outside and followed. Security cameras managed to catch everything but in this city if there hadn’t been cameras, she’d be tossed in a cell with a bunch of guys and then the cops would leave and hope something bad happens. It wouldn’t be the first time.

When the people surrounding you would happily chuck a stone at you or hoist the rope into the tree with the rest of the lynch mob, and cops won’t protect you, all the people trying to mock you for being prepared just look like naive children whose world view extends to the end of their HOA.

I wonder if at any point while floating to the ground they thought to themselves “holy shit, I’m gonna die in a desert for pedophiles, why did I go along with this?”

At least one gets to think twice for now, but I doubt they will.

I got banned from about 15 subreddits I never even knew existed once by calling out a transphobic dogwhistle, and when I inquired about the bans, the mods insinuated I was a child molester and neo-nazi.

Reddit mods don’t need to follow any sort of logic.

And confidently asserting someone is a dick because they got banned from a subreddit is hilarious, and should probably prompt some self-reflection.

Most people I know didn’t even know Kirk was married until his assassination planner window started making the news screeching about how much of a saint he was.

And the United States government, whose nuclear launch systems for decades had a default “0000000” password on systems so old they figured nobody would know how to hack them in person anymore, and they’re incompatible with the internet.

It’s disturbing to me that my high school hobby of fixing and operating old computers meant I could have launched nukes.

I’ve been managing to drag some of them further left, I think, through conversation about things.

A few are 100% on board with a union as long as I keep calling it “collective bargaining” and don’t use the scary U word.

A few are on board with most social safety nets, especially when they find out Healthcare would cost less than it currently costs them in taxes alone, let alone not having to pay for insurance anymore, but the second you call it socialism or use any sort of word like “welfare” then they panic.

Individually I think I’m breaking some of them, but collectively they’re fucking idiots.

There’s a pretty simple test, IMO

Ask a person “is bombing a school filled with children okay as long as the end goal brings about the end of the world?”

If they answer “yes” then just immediately drop them into a meat grinder and use the remains for fertilizer.

Maybe it’s my cynical side, but I genuinely don’t think people like that can be fixed, so while it might be considered “cruel” it’s better to just put them out of everyone’s (including their own) misery, a “nuthouse” just gives them a place to congregate and keep trying to spread their hate.

Useless knowledge: a black hole can technically exist inside a super-massive star.

The gravity of the black hole pulls in hydrogen, the force of the hydrogen fusion and Hawking radiation pressure from the black hole try to push the hydrogen/star stuff out.

For awhile at least, with enough supply of hydrogen (that likely doesn’t exist in a large concentrated enough supply), it can hold itself in balance as the biggest star you’ve never seen.

You know, I was considering putting the potential downside of “one country might just have a young and jacked leader that can thrash all the old rich people” but figured my comment was getting too long for anyone to care to read.
