As an American, it’s not that uncommon for people here to think America is in decline. The corpo media and most politicians will never admit it, but there is no metric in which average citizen does not see things getting worse.

The main difference is that most Americans lack the global perspective to realize how serious and permanent this decline is. They don’t understand that things will never return to how they used to be.

As far as why Israel has support, that probably has a lot to do with external interests in keeping the middle east divided. They want to promote enough competition in the region to prevent a global superpower from emerging, and they’d prefer to have to biggest regional power be as non Muslim as possible. If a middle eastern power or alliance could control most of the middle east, it would be one of if not the most powerful entity on earth. Israel promotes the chaos that prevents an Islamic alliance that many middle eastern powers have toyed with over the past century. An explicitly non Muslim ethnostate would never join such efforts, and would likely be perpetually outnumbered and unable to become that middle eastern superpower themselves.

The critical issue with the US greens is their pathetic efforts in local organizing and their overvaluing of the presidency. Instead of trying to build power from the ground up like the DSA, they throw most of their efforts behind doomed campaigns that do nothing for anyone. Besides, the only way a party can win the presidency is by replacing another in the duopoly.

If the Iran war is a proxy war against China, then the US has lost even harder than they have against Iran. Iran is not an insignificant power and it has a deep feud with the US, so Trump attacking it has little to do with China. If he had properly considered China, he might’ve been more hesitant to go to war. We’re in an era of multipolarity where many smaller players are vying for power just as much as the big 3.

The tragic part is that most Americans don’t even know how much the walls have closed in around them.

As a “doubter,” I know not to trust a single word ever said by Trump. The only thing that matters are his actions, because those can be read no matter what he wants me to think.

He thinks he can keep bullying Iran while still getting out of the conflict because every other interaction with them had no serious consequences. He saw Iran as a punching bag he could keep attacking to demonstrate strength, not realizing that he was playing with fire the entire time. Now that his strategy has backfired, he has no choice but to cut his losses and accept an L, or prolong the conflict and make things even worse for himself.

It’s deadly to get organized right now, so even getting a million people together would likely be met with rico prosecutions for sharing lunch with someone who passed out fliers. There is no freedom to organize even nonviolent opposition to the administration. The state has so many ways to relieve pressure that it’d take mass starvation and unemployment for people to do anything.

The billionaires have completely captured almost the entire opposition party, freezing out anyone who actually opposes their interests. There are no more democratic mechanisms for significant change, and most of us don’t accept that reality. So many people still think that what they’ve been taught to do to impact change will work, but our votes are only acceptable if the candidate is oligarch approved. Even the people who actually stand against them are only allowed to convince people that there is still a chance.

So you ask how we can let this go on? It’s because we’d need to embrace violence to change things, and most believe nonstate violence is wrong no matter how fascist the state.

Considering they have little energy and food independence, they really have no choice but to avoid conflicts. If any great power decided to embargo Japan, there would be little they could do even with a powerful military. Considering the trajectory of the US and China, pushing the offensive is suicide.

I mean, I don’t have a normal perspective for an American by any stretch of the imagination. Most people here still think that America is or at some point was great.

The US has given up on all of it’s real strengths because Trump is too stupid to see anything but raw military might as important. The US used to be so good at winning people over through its promotion of human rights and liberal values of freedom. It was always a mask, but it was a very valuable one. It certainly never won over everyone, but it bought them enough good will to allow Pax Americana to persist. Trump has torn that mask clean off, not realizing just how much he would change the game for everyone. The very confidence and desire to be the dictator of the most powerful empire on earth has made that empire significantly less powerful.

I don’t think the US is gonna be in any position to force European support via oil dependence. The harder they try to bully Europe, the more Europeans are gonna fall into China’s camp. This is especially true if China becomes a dominant provider of renewables; the Iran crisis alone has demonstrated the wisdom of diversifying one’s energy grid. Besides, Europe will want to become less reliant on oil if they want to be capable of opposing Russian conquest. Between the US and Russia both trying to carve out sections of their countries and spheres of influence, China is a safe and sane bet.

The days of US hegemony are well and truly over, and they will probably not be returning in our lifetimes. Multipolarity was inevitable even before Trump, something that Obama was keenly aware of and tried to navigate around. China was always gonna be a primary power, but thanks to Trump they are probably gonna be number one. They will never replace the US in every respect, but they will take their place as the system for the world to emulate. It will be an era of industrial capitalism and increased barriers to trade, where neoliberalism and the free exchange of goods are things of the past. There will be no more pretending that China is an underdog.
