

Did anyone here actually read the article? I think it was pretty reasonable and am worried that the future of LLMs/AI will be determined largely by people who hold very, very different fundamental values than me regarding compassion and equity. I think part of my worry comes from people (often on the left and from the US, but I am biased in what parts of the internet I frequent) dismissing AI as a fad which will soon go away and which will certainly not have a large impact on the world for a long while.
I think this makes sense from the commission’s point of view. If the EU fines google and washington hears of it, that could be the start another trade war with the US. People will really care about that and blame the commission even if they acted reasonably. If they block the fine normies will not care and they can go on with their jobs as usual. I think its wrong to assume google will not go crying to trump if they get fined and beg him to impose more tarriffs (which we all know trump hates doing /s), so if you are in favor of the very much deserved fine you have to accept the risk of a trade war too. Politics sucks man.
