Ahhh, the gICEtapo goes high tech
Horse shit
People like what they like, it isn’t an insult
Ever had steak diane? Steak au poivre?
How about gremolata, chimmichuri, creamed mushrooms, caramelized onions, wine and balsamic reductions?
Hell, just salt and fucking pepper alter the flavor of the beef.
No need for food snobbery at all.
The only problem with people using bottled sauces is that it may not be equally effective for their needs if it isn’t the right cut of steak. An a1 type of sauce gives a different end flavor on something like a rib eye than a filet because the fat levels and “beefiness” aren’t the same.
Now, me? If I want steak, I want steak, not sauces, so the most I’m going to put on top is something like a pan sauce where I deglaze with bourbon and let it reduce enough to nix the alcohol flavor but still pick up the fond.
But that’s me. I ain’t mad at anyone having food the way they like it; might not be willing to buy a filet for someone that insists on well done for everything, but I’ll be glad to hook them up with a cut that works when well done so that I’m not wasting money on something they won’t enjoy as much.
Well, that’s all true, but my Toyota has mph on the dial, not kph, and that’s what I was riffing on more than the hardware specs.
Tbh, the only car I’ve ever had in my fifty years that wasn’t all metric, parts wise, was my 76 cutlass. Even the shitty escort station wagon that was an 83 was metric on enticing everything I ever had to touch on it, except the oil drain plug, iirc. Wanna say it was a 3/4 inch head.
Also, fwiw, I blocked the guy so I didn’t end up being a dick to him rather than criticizing his idea, so I’m not sure if this will show up until I unblock once I’m sure he’s not going to be silly at me again. So, if this comment pops up in a few days, that’s why; I’m not gravedigging older comments lol
You are genuinely, truly dense
Dude, I can go to any hardware store and get metric shit all day long. Some of it US made.
You have a really skewed idea of how little the units involved matter. They literally teach conversions in elementary school for one thing.
But, for another, what makes you think a multinational conglomerate car company can’t just paint new numbers and letters on a dial?
If you want to make “the US” squirm, you can’t just pick some random shit like that to refuse to export. It’s stupid. You gotta just refuse to play entirely. Which is damn near impossible because a lot of the companies that are actually exporting things to the US are way too big to give a fuck, often have US based branches that they would also be hobbling, and would tank their local work forces entirely.
Like, pretend that toyota decides “fuck sae”, and only sends new parts with metric units on them. What happens? Nobody in the US is going to give a fuck at all. Toyota dealers will, and toyota plants will, but not anyone else.
You know who will care? Whatever factory worker in some other country that’s mass manufacturing those parts, and now has even worse pay.
To matter, Toyota would have to just outright not ship anything, and hope that the loss in sales isn’t more than the manufacturing savings. Then, instead of the actual workers having less pay, they’re out of work in a capitalist hellscape where multinational conglomerates and the oligarchs that own them play tiddlywinks with people’s lives. But, hey, at least those workers showed the US that they can’t be bossed around.
I get it, I do. You’re all pissed off and are grabbing for things to regain a sense of stability and maybe improvement.
But you’re talking about burning someone’s mail while they’re burning your house.
Jfc, dude, I get that this is showerthoughts, but damn. Put some actual thought into it if you’re going to veer into serious shit. This is stoned teenagers sitting around at a park level of idea.
Like, do you not realize that damn near every brand you think is a company is just one piece of a bigger company that’s a part of an international network?
That’s just automotive. Every branch of every publicly traded company is like that. Not a single person that’s in control of any of them gives two shiny fucks about you or me. They don’t give a fuck about japan, or the US, or brazil, or Liberia, they only care about themselves. Trying to pretend that refusing to ship one kind of part painted one way is going to disrupt any of that is absurdist.
And I can guarantee you that the leader of your country, whichever one that is, doesn’t give a single shiny fuck about you either, or the US. At best, they might care about not screwing you extra hard as long as it doesn’t interfere with their power and money.
You want to change something? Rise up. Get together with like minded people and take the fuck over.
Tear down the oligarchy and maybe it’ll spread far enough to encourage others to do the same. But dicking around with pieces and parts? That’s a joke dude, a joke. It wouldn’t even inconvenience anyone that makes decisions until everyone rises the fuck up, and that ain’t happening.
No, they couldn’t.
Metric is used in every country, and sae is not exclusive to a small number.
You might end up with some pressures applied, but it wouldn’t be some kind of hammer to swing.
Documentation is no joke.
Kinda.
You can’t actually see the house. It’s covered from above by trees, and from the road by trees and shrubberies.
You can see the fence a little, and the roof of the shed from the road, if you pan around a little, but not the house itself.
Which is lucky, I guess, since my sasquatch looking ass like to hang around naked on the front porch mocking the gods
So, sundar pinchai can be added to the list of CEOs that suck?
Because a lot of the time, it’s weird that when the company does nasty shit, nobody names him as the head asshole in charge the way that other companies and ceos get handled.
The dude has been in the driver’s seat for pretty much every major deterioration of Google/alphabet for years.
Being real, this is the kind of shower thought I prefer.
This particular one is inaccurate, but it’s still a proper shower thought; something that you might think of idly while your body is busy and your brain is on autopilot.
It’s the smell of mucous membranes.
So, the same smell as the inside of your nose and sinuses.
Which is, essentially, the smell of slightly salty water with traces of protein. Which barely smells at all
Soooo, that means there’s no good reason to not lick strangers? Sweet :)
But do they give wah?
In specific for this, yes. But also in general
Is using a fork of something really an actual solution? It’s still enabling the dominance of the original corporation.
I dunno, maybe it is, but it sure doesn’t seem like it to me
Well, considering that the only apps that have multiple columns in portrait mode are the ones that were reddit apps originally, and that 2/3 of those are closed source, it’s kinda slim pickings for me.
I use all three, for different purposes, as well as lemmy-native apps for others.
But I read things on tablets because it’s easier to do than on phones. A double column view is just better in that use case. For me definitely, and I would argue that it would be for others too, unless they have specific issues that require the extra real estate be single image/bigger text.
I still use sync primarily because it ends up giving me a better experience over eternity and boost. Boost’s implementation of columns is weak sauce. Eternity is great for almost everything though, and has better filtering. But the layout isn’t as suited for my needs as sync is.
What I really miss is slide, but it’s dead in the water
Only if it’s freeform teleportation that is man portable.
If you can’t carry it with you, you only get one trip, so that limits how many crossings are possible by a single person, and they could choose to imprison rather than deport.
If it isn’t freeform, you’d have to have a destination receiver of some kind, which would make it fairly easy to control in the same way as airplanes are.
Hell, depending on how it worked, there might be range limits. Even Star Trek transporters have range limits, despite them being huge. Other versions in fiction have required steps to get anywhere distant, and the harder the sci-fi, the more limited the range is because there’s a ton of obstacles to any theoretical basis for teleportation.
The most realistic ones, you’d be sending a signal, and signals all have the possibility of degradation or interference, and that increases over distance. So you’d likely be looking at in city or city to city ranges if it was a possibility (and afaik, it isn’t anything that can be achieved)
Now, take out the bullshit that’s tracking you and sending the information back to them to sell, and we’ll be doing something great
Yeah, I can see that.
The fuck did anyone expect?
