As an outsider, that tweet explains exactly what Brexit has looked like from my perspective.
Wait, it’s been a decade?
Since that shitshow started, yes.
A decade of brexit and a decade of Trump. 😔
Measure their level of desperatron to join by asking as a part of the deal to adopt the euro and ditch the pound. Don’t open the door until they accept it to guarantee that there’s not gonna be another brexit.
Britain? The place where you go to jail because you don’t like genocide?
The funniest thing is that Brexit was promised to reduce immigration and have a positive effect on the economy.
It didn’t.
Immigration increased, wages decreased, inflation increased, and things have been worse for the UK in general.
The average UK voter is so dense that they put their vote behind the guy that caused this mess again.
I worked with a horrid person who voted Brexit for a few dumb reasons but the most worrying one was because he was racist. Openly said he didn’t want the “blackies” here. If I still worked with him I would be laughing in his face right now. Because of the shortage in certain areas like carers and health, we now have more Africans families in our town than ever before. Totally the opposite of what he wanted.
The interactions with these people whom he hates, is far more positive than my experiences with him. People like him can fuck right off.
Amusing that Britains think they are wanted back.
I wouldn’t mind it if we started negotiations to let the UK rejoin in some capacity, but I think that there should be certain guarantees that they won’t just up and leave again in a couple of years. And I also believe they should not be granted any exemptions to Schengen and the Eurozone that they may have had before.
Nope, no exemptions.
Also they got to ditch the imperial system for good
They pound has to go 100% That’s the price.
Did you read the post? That’s the joke.
Once sober.
We were a major financial contributor to the EU. We also laundered a lot of money to them that we would then get back as EU benefits, it was a weird financial win-win situation for us and the EU
I think we would be welcomed back, but I do expect some concessions to be pulled as punishment and as a warning to other countries with out of control loudspeaker groups signalling to come out
I’d like them back if they behaved. We need a strong EU.
Not even the people campaigning for Brexit wanted Brexit. It was not supposed to win the referendum.
As I understand it, they didn’t have to follow through either? It was a strong suggestion vote, not an absolute.
They didn’t, but there’d have been literal rioting in the streets and the Conservatives wouldn’t have got back in power for at least a decade or two had they gone back on it.
They could have lied their way out of it, just like everything else they lie their way out of.
Then why did they hire firms like Cambridge Analytica to sway opinion through manipulation and propaganda?
Them rightwing loons have been pretty global for some time.
I suspect the ideal outcome would have been to have Leave almost win, like if it went 52-48 the other way. That way they could still keep saying it’s “what the people want” and keep using it as a wedge issue, but without having to actually do anything.
The British electorate is very hard to underestimate.
Boris and Farage were cheering with their mouth when they won the referendum, but their eyes were looking for a place to hide
Nah, Farage was happy. He made bank and didn’t have any responsibility to do anything. He could just peace out of the whole situation
Run to the German embassy and ask for a passport
He did figure that out soon enough, but in the moment they didn’t even have the concept of a plan in case of a win.
Boris knew the next PM would be pilloried, so he waited it out to become PM.
There’s this consistent line through modern history: right wing ideas are bad. It keeps happening. Right wing politicians have power, they do stuff, and it goes badly for most people. And then, somehow, few people learns, not enough decide “hurting the outgroup isn’t worth my own suffering”, and they get elected again.
Right wing ideas are genius. For the people currently at the top of the hierarchy.
Cuz it’s a pyramid scheme scam at the heart of it
No, no, it’s a reverse funnel, see…?

Great Britain is certainly welcome to come back to Europe, but this time they can abolish their pound for euro, do they want this?
I thought leaving the EU was a terrible idea at the time AND have wanted to rejoin ever since we left. Now with that said I would have to seriously think about voting to rejoin if we had to leave the Pound behind.
I’d probably agree to every other thing the EU throws at us, but I have a strange attachment to the Pound. However I also don’t think the EU should take us back at all after what we did. We don’t deserve them.
What should happen is that every time it’s suggested to an EU politician they should just laugh hysterically then say “Nigel Farage” and “Boris Johnson” then shake their heads and walk off.
Can anyone with first hand experience explain some negative effects of Brexit? In the US we don’t get any news about it
Universities couldn’t work on research projects together anymore. We’ve lost a decade of team building and partnerships which will take many years to rebuild even though we’ve recently negotiated to rejoin the research group.
They isolated their economy from a large economy just a short boat ride away. Killed any ability of British grads to get jobs in Europe, and cut british industry working in Europe. Brexit was about Boomers and jingoism letting a mostly retired population dictate that they ignore industry and anyone under 40.
I.e. exact same problem as the US driven by the exact same cunts.
I don’t have 1st hand experience but I’ve seen in the news that UK businesses have been hit economically because imports and exports between the UK and the EU have more taxes and regulations. I’ve also seen news stories of British retirees in Spain shocked and appalled that they now need visas and may or may not qualify.
We’re only talking about it because we’re very likely to get a new Labour leader and prime minister soon, so the candidates are either trying to/being forced to say something about it because our media has a fucking pathology for boosting talking points such as Brexit that might allow them to put Farage on the screen too.
While bragging how they won the championship in their youth and they can still take on everybody.
The wild part is in sweeping elections Britian just chose the party behind Brexit (Reform). Which is basically the GOP of Britian. Brexit actually caused a massive influx of immigrants and this party ran on getting rid of immigrants. Can’t make it up, they’re making the same exact mistake America just made 2 years prior.
I think Hugo Rifkind nailed it back in 2018 with his shit cheese submarine.
I mean, I think that the metaphor of a single individual doesn’t work all that well. The UK is a group, not a single person, just a group that can only make one collective decision. There are a bunch of Brits who wanted to Remain, and by-and-large, those people still want to be in. There are a bunch of other Brits who wanted to Leave, and by-and-large, those people still want out. The margin that’s changed their mind is relatively-small. It’s just that the vote was a pretty close one. The UK in 2026 doesn’t look all that different from the UK a decade back.
Yes and if we’re going to continue the original metaphor with groups, some of the group that continued for a lock-in are now being sick on themselves as well…
