I think it was always this way.
Fwiw, I’m also a vet. It’s a lot of the blind leading the blind. The 25 year olds that are the most indoctrinated get put in charge of the new recruits. There are a ton them that actually believe the propaganda and they need to bc they’ve made it their religion.
There is a lot of malevolence at the top but the majority of service members are just ignorant idealists. It’s sad, honestly.
P.S.- I’ve always wished that I could get a job as an anti-recruiter.
