Is what US veterans gave their lives for a country that is a billionaire kleptocracy with AI used to displace jobs and control what people think…

It feels a bit like those who laid down their lives for the king and religion.

I think it was always this way.

I think it was always this way.

Yes, it’s always been this way. The only difference between this administration is that they are openly and brazenly corrupt. In the past, a lot of what the US did needed to be hidden from the citizens for fear of outrage. Now that they know the majority of the country as a whole allows it and many actually support it, they’ve accelerated their pace in allowing the billionaires running the country to squeeze every last penny out of the serfs.

I say this as a medically retired veteran. There’s a level of brainwashing that occurs from the first day of education that paints our country as a global defender of all that’s good in the world and as a soft-brained 18yo fresh out 13 years of molding is ready to die for the fiction that’s been sold to them.

I feel a lot of empathy for the kids coming up through the process at the moment, what with the current administration quoting pulp fiction, posting memes of murdering foreigners backed by a great soundtrack and video game sound bites and all the other shit being pushed at them on social media. If it was hard to get your head above the propaganda before, it’s got to feel like going out and murdering people for oil or a consolidation of power is an act blessed by American God.

The worst and most insidious part is that having the ability to defend yourself and affect the world around you are still the most effective ways to maintain sovereignty enough for self-determination, so there’s a wicked kernel of truth around which layer upon layer of lies, half-truths, and certain-point-of-view justifications are wrapped.

What we were buying was safety and stability, but what we were sold came bundled with as much fine print as the American public can stomach, which is a lot, as it turns out. All you have to say is that we have to attack them to prevent them from retaliating for attacking them and that’s enough.

I really thought we made strides in shaping the military into a more thoughtful force during my tenure in the wake of OIF/OEF so it’s doubly disheartening to see it’s all just coming back to business as usual.

Fwiw, I’m also a vet. It’s a lot of the blind leading the blind. The 25 year olds that are the most indoctrinated get put in charge of the new recruits. There are a ton them that actually believe the propaganda and they need to bc they’ve made it their religion.

There is a lot of malevolence at the top but the majority of service members are just ignorant idealists. It’s sad, honestly.

P.S.- I’ve always wished that I could get a job as an anti-recruiter.

Well, they’re not gonna say “my veterans” are they? If you are talking to a foreigner and telling them about your currency or whatever, wouldn’t you say, “oh yeah, our currency is more colorful than yours.” In other words, “our” doesn’t necessarily include the person being spoken to.

… Their statement is grammatically accurate.

      Your suggestion here is asinine.

Actual Smoky The Bear Simpsons gag in real life. Unbelievable.

You’re missing the point. Hint: Not everyone here is from the US. Many are even from countries where veteran veneration is not a thing.

That does not change the fact that the speaker used the correct words.

Poverty is also vital. Enticing poor teens with money for college, signing bonuses that are more money than they’ve ever seen in one place, and cheap/free healthcare is a strong motivation.

“Why don’t Presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?”

“Gave their lives” implies they were not manipulated. If i conned a child into giving me their snack, you would recognize that i stole it from them.
