Obviously the world would be better without him in general but I’m not sure how much relief it would ultimately bring.

apparently its not a unique to a clade, but any of the related anamita deadly mushrooms that are all WHITE. phalloides, is greenish. they have some europe, but doesnt seem as common as death cap.
It was followed pretty closely in the news in NZ too.

No one should. There is no simple rule for determine mushroom edibility, and definitely not that one.
