It’s a very British style protest. Farage tried to turn an investigation/resignation/bielection into a media circus. The larger parties instead stepped aside to let the clown in to deal with him.

I think they have some unique laws that anyone can stand in an election. I don’t know the details, but some commenters seem quite pleased and proud that the system works as it does.

When I lived in Britain I always felt that calling “public school” what most of the world calls “private school” was an excellent illustration of how at least the English culture was the most hypocrite in Europe (especially from the middle class upwards).

The rich had a private education, with a few years at “public school” to make contacts and learn to socialise with their peers.
It predated universal education systems.

Yes, it’s a parliamentary standards investigation. If he’s no longer a member of parliament then there’s no need to investigate him.

Not just toadman either, other high up members of Reform have been flagged for investigation because of suspicious transfers ending in their accounts.
Farage is hoping to distract the media from these investigations with the circus he’s putting on. If the focus stays on that money, Reform are fucked.

The question of whether he might even win is one that he is reluctant to countenance. “It’s earliest days yet and there is a long old road to go, but if in the unlikely event that the humans of Clacton prefer me to old Nige, then I will do my very best to represent them,” he told the Guardian.
Farage is the favourite, but odds on Binface winning have been tumbling. Oddschecker, which provides betting odds from some of the UK’s most popular bookmakers, said odds on the underdog winning had been slashed from 5/1 into 7/2.
