why would you need to run updates on the old systems at all?
Ah so the old machines weren’t working properly before the move. Gotcha. In my experience Mint has been good at using its defaults to get WIFI working. Hell I probably would have skipped over dealing with the track pad and just plugged a mouse in and let Mint fix that part after. I have been running into the problem that all those mice laying around are USB A, and laptops now seem to have moved completely away from adding one.
