The difference is, most Americans themselves are descended from immigrants. We also don’t really laugh at the prevention of illegal immigration either when it is done sensibly.
We’re all immigrants if one goes back far enough.
I live in Northern Ireland. If I go back far enough, my ancestors are in Scotland. If I go back even further, they’re back in Ireland. It’s quite interesting.
Some ways are more sensible than others, but the whole concept of illegal immigration emerged from racists trying to maintain their racial purity so it’s fundamentally flawed from the get go.
It depends how you look at it. Generally people respect the autonomy of native americans. I think racial purity is stupid, but different cultures do have different social systems, more diverse than what we realise. Generally, integration is a good thing rather than a free-for-all.

And this, a complete non-issue for the vast majority of human history, suddenly became a massive problem just as developed countries were getting worried about lesser races compromising their racial purity. Yeah, right.
Less sarcastically, what you’re presenting is one of multiple competing rebrandings for a system that is ultimately about racial purity. That’s how it started and it was never meaningfully reformed from there.

I’d rather if we’d stop drying to be disingenuous and bring race into the argument. If anything, the major factor is religion. Immigration between european societies isn’t such a big deal as they all generally follow or were at least raised in some flavour of Christianity. Meanwhile Islamic societies and Islam itself have different values when it comes to things such as the treatment of women, polygamy, etc, that there’s some form of integration that needs to happen for the two religions to coexist with each other. Same can go for any other religion essentially.
What happened to the Native Americans can be called “immigration” only as much as WWII can be described as “the Germans immigrated east.” This is a complete non-sequitur.

what else are you supposed to do when things aren’t done properly? it’s just common sense. not racist. the migrant crisis in europe proves that, surely. i just love to look across the pond at some of their creative ideas for how to deal with people who just refuse to do things the right way. if only we also had a large sea we could just let them drown in, instead of having to spend so much money after they get here. clever stuff there from enlightened europe!
I have no issue with migrants, my issue is generally with people who try and bypass the immigration system for their own advantage. Often they tar the good name of legal migrants. We have a load of useful idiots here who seriously think that the only reason someone would attempt to enter Europe is because of war or danger. That isn’t the case.

People dripping in from the continent over hundreds of years isn’t the same as a sudden influx hopping a continent and causing smallpox to wipe out the locals
