Reminder: Some models reported to regenerate stuff close to their training material in the right circumstances, could be seen as a kind of industrial espionage laundering.
They now want the watch to record audio all day and give you “AI recaps of your day”. They stress the data stays in the watch.
Until it doesn’t.
I had to go into each app’s security settings and opt out of allowing Apple Intelligence.
After nokia N9 I got the Jolla phone. Then the Jolla C. Eventually as Jolla was struggling at the time my work e-mails did not work etc.
I had to make a choice between pest and cholera.
I chose apple as it was more privacy oriented at least in talks.
But if that “promise” flies also out of window…then what?
Does a phone that one can truly own and also works in corporate setting (sideload intune in a separate container) exists? Something that works with as litlle as possible tuning to make it work? Something that our IT department approves? Banking apps need to work.
I’m open for suggestions nevertheless I feel like we are prisoners in some sense.
I used to have a separate work phone but carrying two phones all the time got annoying after a couple of years.

I don’t like this. No opt out option for cookies.

Backflip seems like a stretch from what the article says. But when Googles policies have me seriously considering if avoiding the walled garden was worth it, its a pretty unfortunate slip that says a lot about what Apple’s leadership is thinking.
I think we’ve all seen the enshitification playbook enough to know “accept or not now” just means its a matter of time before its not an option.
Do you consent to this shit? [ ] yes. [ ] ask me again later*.
/ * we reserve the right to change out terms at any time, including the pretense of the above question.
The Google garden has its own walls now, doesn’t it? Aren’t they preventing side loading of apps now (or soon)? I’m not sure what other walls do or don’t exist at this point.
I have an Android phone, and I like Android better than Apple, but these days I’m struggling to see much difference between the two brands.
Restricting the easyness (for now).
Still fully available to do.Edit:
Regarding the difference between Android and Apple:- Android is still more open
- The operation and what you are able to do on macOS vs Linux vs Windows and Android vs iOS is waay different.
- Try mounting an SMB share on macOS. Soo different vs just being able to do it on Windows/Linux and also mounting the subfolder instead of the top-level dir.
In what way is Android more open? (Serious question, because I’m really not clear on how.)
SMB: I haven’t used a recent version of MacOS, but we were able to do it pretty easily on my wife’s 2017ish MacBook, which we just replaced because Apple wasn’t supporting it any more. But I do use SMB on my Android tablet (and occasionally phone) to access my Linux server. Is that possible on ios?
You can at least set a custom Android ringtone without having to pay for it
You can also set a custom ringtone on iPhone for free. It’s just that, it’s a multi-step process and you need the GarageBand app.
It’s literally open source: https://source.android.com/
Gaben where is my steam phone ?
Out of stock
People need to learn that Apple is like all companies and treat consumer friendly actions like any other feature to add or cut when they think it is the best competitive advantage they have to play.
Lol
We need smartphones that we can actually own and control. Root access with locked bootloader and good security.
Apple being Apple, in the end.
Stopped updating my iPhone 16 Pro in hopes of jailbreaking it one day, it would be nice to find a Linux phone as well someday with decent hardware.
Same here. The hardware is not bad but oh boy is the software the biggest pile of shit I’ve ever had to use. And I want to use my librem 5 (linux) phone but you need a stack of pokemon cards as batteries if you want it to last a day. They really should sell a charging deck for spare batteries so you can hot swap them.
Have a look at Volla Plinius.
Still figuring it out, camera software definitely lacking, waydroid support still in development xD But hey, I love this thing.
Fairphone 6+
love my fairphone.
it’s a real bummer that graphene won’t work on it though. lineage does though, so there’s that.
Apple doesn’t care about user privacy, was that meant to be surprising?
I don’t like Apple. I find their UI to be hard to use and counter-intuitive. Their walled garden / vendor lock-in is a model of monopoly behavior that is terrible.
However, unlike most other US tech giants when you use their stuff you are the customer, not the product. It is in Apple’s interest to keep their customers happy.
So on one hand it is surprising that they would upset their customers like this.
However, capitalism dictates that if their is also a chance of making money by making you both the customer and the product, Apple has to take it.
So on the other hand completely unsurprising. 😅
Oh that was some good capilitist propaganda. Apple wants to keep customers “happy”. Oh I get tickled thinking people are naive enough to believe this crap. Thanks for making my day.
Keep their customers happy… this was a company that tried to charge people more than the price of a new car for a personal computer in the 90s.
as a public company, it was bound to happen. shareholders ultimately come before the customer. Just because they weren’t the product, doesn’t mean apple actually cares about the consumer
Oh, how unexpected!
