After years of redditing I decided to leave Reddit, exactly because it is not a free platform that respects its users. The proof, my final post explaining why I’m leaving Reddit was banned!
I got my 3 year old account banned for telling someone that call me a ret@rd to fuck off
Last I checked their account was still active
Guy who made death threats at me for having a profile pic that looked like something furry-adjacent got a slap on the wrist and still has his account. I’ve been permanently banned for calling a Nazi a loser.
Stop checking. Your mental health is worth more than that. Forgive them, forgive yourself for worrying about it, and keep moving forward.
Forgive them
Nah. Just forget them.
Why do you have an @ sign in “retard”?
It’s a reference to the fediverse.
Good-bye-posts are overdramatic, just log off.
And this is on “technology” because…?
Social media sites often filter other social media sites. It’s crummy but that’s most likely why.
Also, “goodbye” posts are banned on a lot of forums because they contribute nothing. They don’t even contribute discussion because either the person who made them has left, or they’re a liar and you don’t want their contributions anyway (attention seeking).
No love for Reddit here — they banned me for saying the US should have stricter penalties for messing with kids. They took it as a threat to the President — this was around the time the Epstein files hit the news again. I thought they were a little overzealous, so I appealed and it was upheld. I decided to not continue to use a site that was supportive of paedophiles, and said as much when I closed my account and they asked why.
So, welcome to Lemmy! Not all of us are here because we hate Reddit, though. But still, enough do that it’s kind of the revolution, in a sense. There’s also the open source element. Lots of FOSS fanatics here, Linux guys and whatnot. As a Mac user, I feel like Linux guys are our allies and we’re all against Microsoft, but a lot of Linux guys feel they stand alone and that Mac is just as corporate as Windows. I get that, but I don’t agree. Better to build a bridge than to burn it — unless a paedophile is the only thing on the other side of that bridge. Then burn it down.
im new here bc my reddit account got banned for no reason as well. its really a shame. 6 years of info and notekeeping built up and then just stolen from me with no explanation at all.
Got permaban for saying that CEOs should work and not be lazy assholes by exploiting new employees, sent a “complaint” saying that if calling out CEOs for laziness is enough to permaban someone then there’s no place for me on this platform and bid them farewell, they responded saying that it was too harsh and the comment was restored but left permaban, didn’t bother anymore.
I left a few years ago. I didn’t get banned but I did remove my content.
It’s an adjustment. It’s a lot slower, and you have to play with your filters to get your viewing right for you.
There’s not a lot of niche forums like over there or support groups say for example the stremio Reddit. But it’s building and it’s a lot more genuine.
It takes time to build and you are now part of figuring how and where you can contribute. It is a nigggly transaction and you have to stop and remind yourself it’s not Reddit, it won’t be Reddit and you left there for a reason.
I feel like a real grown up now 🤣
I hope you’ve edited and then deleted all your comments before closing the account? There are nice scripts for that and it’ll devalue Reddit if there’s less useful information on there.
Ha just commented this before I saw your comment.
This is the only way, otherwise Reddit still has all you have given it.
