I’ve driven like an old person since forever.
Done the math too many times - you can’t out-maneuver traffic or time.
People do not like hearing this though. They feel like they’re getting there much faster.
I do just a little above the speed limit because my car lies to me about how fast I’m going.
However, almost daily, I have people that want to do 20 mph over the limit who pass me illegally in the opposing lane. Invariably, I catch up to them at the next 4-way stop sign or traffic light or when they get stuck behind the next tractor-trailer. We arrive at the same time.
I used to be them.
I did the math.
I slowed down.
I’m much happier during my drives.
No stress.
Are you me? Lol
Even driving cross-country when I can get to cruise it’s hard to make a difference.
I can make a significant dent in time, but it’s over an 8 hour drive with no traffic. Then I can cut perhaps an hour if I’m doing 10 mph over consistently.
But this only works if you’re on a quiet road, say a “blue highway” in the midwest/western US, not an interstate.
The highway I used to live on changed from 75mph to 65, and I was pissed!
Until I did the math and realized it only increased the drive by like 2 minutes.
Just watched a delirious old man driving a huge suv down two different one way streets yesterday
I hope to die in my sleep, like my grandfather. Not screaming, like his passengers
I once worked for some old guy. He told me that he only drives when his also very old wife is present, because he can hardly even see out of the windshield anymore. Nice
True, there aren’t many old drivers who are honking the horn and giving everyone the finger — most of those people die young I guess.
They are out in force on sundays, driving ten under, causing traffic snakes, blocking both lanes, swerving into the bike and opposing lanes. Merging onto highways so slowly that oncoming traffic has to break unexpectedly. So much fun.
Were you stuck behind an old person
I am an old person.
is it wonderful?
