Oh, I didn’t realize how unclear that was. The disk is a 2TB NVME SSD. I searched and searched, even booted into Mint on another disk and tried to search from there, and could only find a few hundred GB worth of files (probably about 600GB if I had to guess, lol). I genuinely have no idea what could have been taking up nearly 1.4TB of space, so that’s all I meant when I said “only.”

My suspicion is that something was going wrong whenever I deleted anything. Maybe for some reason the data just weren’t going anywhere, even though the trash was empty and they were no longer showing up in their old locations. Hence the term “clogged.” No similar issues with Cachy just yet, though.

I know, I just like to see the “up to date” symbol in the toolbar, especially on a fresh install. Like I said, I get that it’s rolling release; the problem isn’t the frequency of updates, it’s that this most recent update keeps failing when I try to install it.

I just switched from Bazzite to Cachy today. For some reason my disk space got… clogged, with Bazzite? Filelight was no help so I backed everything up, wiped the disk, installed Cachy, replaced my files, and the disk went from being nearly full to only using 600GB. Still not sure what happened there.

Cachy, meanwhile, has asked me to update 4 times in the 4 hours I’ve been using it. Which is fine, I get that Arch is rolling release, but now on the 4th update it keep failing for some reason. Also I can’t have my headphones and speakers plugged in at the same time or my speakers don’t work.

Sigh. All this KDE stuff is nice and flashy, and my games have worked with both Bazzite and Cachy, so I appreciate that, but damn is it tough for me to make a Linux recommendation to anyone else that isn’t just “use Mint, it’s stable.” Anything more in depth turns into a mini essay (see above!)

Having a GPU is nice if you start letting other people access your Jellyfin server; transcoding for some video files can be tough on the CPU, and if it’s trying to do more than one at a time, stuff can get laggy. But unfortunately, trying to get my ancient GPUs to do anything has been a nightmare! Besides the architecture itself being old, it seemed as though Nvidia deprecated some of the features I needed on the official drivers, and the Nouveau docs have been a headache to sort through. I think, maybe, probably, it’s technically possible, but I’m burned out on messing with it at the moment.

That 970 might be recent enough to work with a little less hassle though!

100%.The strongest PC in my homelab right now is my old gaming PC featuring an i7-4790k, 16gb RAM, and sometimes it has a GTX 680 and others a 730 (neither right now though, for Reasons). 2nd place goes to a dual-core, 4-thread laptop from 2012 with hinges so broken I have to lean the screen back against the wall behind it. And before I retired that old gaming PC last year, that laptop ran my personal Jellyfin server for well over a year with no major issues!

“Victimless crime” has always been kind of a grey term anyway. There are two sides to the types of things that refers to.

Doing drugs? Being a prostitute? Gambling your money away? Victimless crimes.

Manufacturing drugs? Being a pimp? Running a casino? I’m not so sure.

I mean, we do, but we did give some of it to Ukraine (not a criticism) and also more importantly, we want to keep having that hoard. I guess who knows wtf our foreign policy is now, but in general if you have a big, one-time-use stick, it’s smarter to threaten to use the stick than it is to actually use it and just hope that there’s nothing else that needs whacking afterwards. The impression I’ve been getting is that there wasn’t any time to make a plan anyway. I mean, even if there had been time, I doubt this group of geniuses would have been able to put together anything coherent , but it seems to me as though US negotiators were getting close to a good peace deal, Israel got wind of it, decided to literally bomb it, and this admin is too fascist and spineless to refuse to follow Israel into a war of aggression.

So, yeah, not that there would have been a good plan anyway, but I think this was almost as much of a surprise to the admin as it was to the rest of us.

In a similar boat, I’ve thought about that but if I ever upgraded to a stronger real centralized PC I’d have to do a bunch of Docker setup and if anything breaks my whole system would go down. As it is, with piecemeal shitass laptops each running individual services I get lots of redundancy!

But, like, this one specifically. There are a hundred better examples you could point to for this. Earlier I saw a headline that there are censored random words like “and” or even “I.” But claiming they lied about there being a real person’s face on there is just self serving.

This is just such a weird thing to call out as a lie. Pretty sure you’re only doing it so you can validate your snap conclusion. Why would they lie about this? Its not like it makes them look better; pasting some victim’s face over a revered piece of artwork so they can pervertedly leer at both simultaneously is not projecting the image they want. Maybe stick to calling out consequential, evident lies.
