A small boat is (well, was, these are probably ~2008 prices I’m remembering) cheap. It’s probably been ‘patched’ by marinas and such, but at one time you could get a small sailboat for 10-20k, and get electricity+dock space for a tenth of the price of an apartment’s rent. You would be living in ~200 square feet at best (and probably less than that) but it was doable. For a family of three, you could probably swing that lifestyle with a 40k boat, which is still well under a typical house. Again, it would be ridiculously small, but it’s possible. A friend of mine grew up on a sailboat like that.

Aye, I think people are still imagining sea mines as the old big-ball-with-spikes-anchored-by-a-chain, and haven’t ever looked at how sophisticated minesweeper ships are. Modern mines can determine target ships by electromagnetic profiles, and minesweepers are able to alter their own signature in some pretty wild ways to slip by or get around the mines.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t spiky balls out there in the water, but that’s not the only tool in the kit.

Meh. I’ve had to wipe that area of a few dogs, horses, and some others, but it’s super rare.* The tail is held up and away from the anus while the fecal matter is pushed out, so the dirty portions don’t touch the ‘clean’ areas of the tail and body… and I would bet if we had tails we would do the same and keep the tail held up until we’ve finished wiping/bideting. The animals also can keep it up and out of the way for the duration of sexy times, so I would bet we’d have no issue for doing it for the few minutes between evacuation and cleaning, and that’s before even considering that we’re human and could build a tool/device to do that already.

*Only exception I can think of immediately is pretty gross though: Cows are hideously unclean on average, with their shitty bumholes spilling over the vagina, balls, and tail if the owner doesn’t clean them occasionally. (The colon health / fecal composition is pretty dependent on the local conditions and feedings, so it’s not like they’re always bad)

I’m not the most familiar with hardware level stuff. With the security disabled as in the article, can a malevolent actor rewrite firmware or leave the equivalent of an undetectable rootkit on your hardware? It would be mildly amusing to see an entire generation of pirates fuck up here, but also reminds me of the arguments regarding the intel cpus having a secondary, unknown firmware in the form of the management thingamajig.

This is still one of my gripes with a few friends. They never let go of the idea that the ‘top generals’ and such in the military would have their honor and do the right thing.
