Yea tech got corrupted with the high software salaries. A friend of a friend is a software engineer, really smart guy, really nice and fun to be around from the few times I met him. But I lost a lot of respect for him once he told me he works for Samsung’s ad department. I’m sure he makes a crap load though.

I literally just recommended CachyOS to my boss while we were complaining about Windows 11 in our one on one meeting today

It has always applied to LEO. Scifi media transformed it into the idea of “nothing will ever be able to leave the planet ever again” but the original studies that the phrase originated from included LEO. Despite the fact that there is enough atmosphere that a lot of the debris would experience sufficient drag for the orbit to decay within several years, not decdes or millenia, it would still have huge impacts.

I’ve had to do training at work that I’m fairly certain was mostly AI generated. The pics and audio seemed to be. And even the questions that I had to get right in order to complete the training… Some of them just weren’t covered in the training. Come on
I at least have external backups for important family pics and docs! But yea the homelab itself is severely lacking. If it dies, I get to start from scratch. Been gambling for years that “I’ll get around to a backup solution before it dies”. I wouldn’t bet on me :|
What’s a backup solution…? (I’m only being half sarcastic, I really need to set one up, but it’s not as “fun” as the rest of my homelab, open to suggestions)

OnlyPhones is the future they want. Walled gardens and highly addictive apps and subscriptions and micro transactions (aka gambling). Freedom and real compute power will be locked away in their servers. And the top of the line phones are already expensive enough that pretty much everyone that has one is on a payment plan for it

It’s the grift that keeps on grifting. How long can it keep going

Yes, really. Pretty much any time you can visibly see an arc through the air it’s in the thousands of volts range. If you walk around in socks and zap something and you can feel a shock from your fingertips it’s probably 2-3 kV at least, can be up to 15+ kV, but very low current

Sadly most people’s eyes glaze over if I mention it, so I don’t get too far. But I try!
Aside from the nonprofit makerspace that I’m a part of, which is filled with like-minded nerds, I’ve met ONE single person randomly in real life that wanted to learn more about self hosting. Sent him a brain dump of all the various services I run, topics for him to research, etc.

They’re being built into earbuds and headphones now too. Let me see if I can find links to the products again, saw them while browsing articles about CES

The headphones were real, the earbuds were just a concept image though

Or immich!
With the amount of AI powered cameras being put up around cities around the world… Yea they could use tech like that to monitor runways too
