“Sweden’s overall positive experience is not as a result of snus [packaged tobacco] or nicotine pouches,”

Perhaps not… But it sure fucking helped out.

/ A Swedish smoker turned snuser, turned totally tobacco&nicotine free for 10 years+. (Not saying it was easy… even with snus)

What if I relapse? Start smoking again(FML)? With my cigarettes next to your dinner experience? Or above your baby stroller at the bus stop? Fuck that.

Reducing harmful and addictive substances in the Union is of great importance. Is snus akin to quit-smoking-patches? No. Is snus worse than cigarettes and should be banned before them? Absolutely fucking Not!

Slight bias here as I’m from Denmark, but don’t fucking follow Swedes in anything. Unless it’s their car culture, I really like Volvos and Saabs modded to hell and back.

First of all. To declare my bias, i am Swedish. I do not use tobacco.

Tl;dr In my opinion. If they want to ban Snus, then they also need to ban cigarettes and vapes. Snus to many Swedes is what Cigarettes are to Germans and French. Imagine the revolt from those two if EU were to ban cigarettes everywhere.

They mention that Snus can be a gateway to cigarettes, but in all of my life, I’ve only seen the exact opposite. People who want to stop smoking, switch to snus. So, it’s the cigarettes which is a gateway to snus.

I truly hate those that just throw discarded “prillor”, used tobacco, on the ground, but that has been reduced a lot since the pouches now often come with a space to discard used ones. And at least i don’t have to breath in someone’s snus. So it doesn’t affect me.

This government will always stand on the side of Swedish snus users

While i don’t like snus or any tobacco at all for that matter. Obviously our trade minister is going to be on the side that benefits Swedens freedom and Swedish trade. That’s kind of literally his job.

If EU decided to ban Cigarettes everywhere for everyone. Well, guess how happy France or Germany would be about that.

You know the saying, Double standards are twice as good.

Agreed, while I’m no fan of snus either if it’s a question of snus vs cigarettes or vapes, snus wins hands down. If they must ban something, banning snus before banning cigarettes makes no sense whatsoever.

Their argument seems to be that snus is easier to market for young people with flavors and whatnot.

So if that’s their argument, why not ban the artificial flavoring of tobacco rather than the product? Since they dont want to ban the product in its other forms.

Funfact: most snus sold outside of Sweden and Norway in the EU does not contain tocacco, as that is illegal anyway. It’s basically cellulose dipped in nicotine.

Weak argument anyway, I doubt “prillor” is worse than the cigarette butts that most smokers throw on the ground without a second thought if there’s no ashtray nearby.
