I know that no Western country has a spotless record, but… I’m surprised the US government isn’t trying to exterminate the local population with infected blankets.

That’s so 1600’s. They’ll achieve a similar outcome by forcing American style healthcare and food regulations on Greenland.

The push to extract Greenland’s resources is already underway, with Texas-based firm Greenland Energy – which has ties to Trump – offloading drilling equipment in the island’s eastern Jameson Land region without the required local approval and falsely told residents that permission had been granted, according to an August report by The Guardian.

The company has claimed that up to $1 trillion in crude may lie beneath Jameson Land, but Greenland’s government warned it had not authorized the equipment landing or drilling. Greenland Energy subsequently delayed its plans and suspended drilling until 2027.

Sounds like Greenland needs to seize all that equipment…

Impound every piece of equipment, down to gloves, shoes, and PPE. My suggestion would be to first paint it ALL RAINBOWS, and send those pix out virally.

Building the infrastructure will cause significant environmental damage. That’s what they don’t want.

Sure buddy. Pretend the rich aren’t just lying to us and selling our countries out from under us. Easier to blame Americans than realize the truth.

The sarcasm and snark help no one, dude. Especially when they’re aimed at folks who agree with you.

Well, I tried. Just know you’re doing more harm than good when you engage with people like this. Which is disappointing, because I see your posts everywhere and I largely agree with the points you make. I just wish you were less short with people who are only trying to help.

Greenland is already calling bullshit. No, there is no “massive oil, gas and mineral exploration” underway.

Yup. Well, technically, it was a corporation (with ties to Trump) that shipped the equipment. But at this point, po-tay-to, po-tah-to.

And yet the US will try anyway. Denmark and Greenland called their deal with the US necessary to buy time but as a Canadian it was a short sighted call that invites far worse US trouble. Denmark and Greenland should have put their foot down.

Yes, though not immediately. Ultimately, the Danish military would probably have to repel the invasion.

Hopefully not before first inviting the president there for an impromptu “breaking ground” ceremony on his new oil well.

It never mattered. This is what fascists do. Its why you can’t give them easy victories. Even if you think they are meaningless they just ignore it and take even more. Greenland isn’t going to sieze anything. That gambit has been made. The US is gonna do what it wants now.
