The labels are seeking $150,000 for every single song taken, the maximum allowed by law.

A shocking misrepresentation of the value of their product.

i wonder how many artists have actually seen that kind of money on a song they created. Sure there’s the pop artists that can and do but consider artists like TLC who dominated the charts and were pennyless at the end of the day because they didn’t understand their contracts

Given Weird Al, someone who is a really well-known artist, gets about a sandwich a year off Spotify… Exactly 0 from Spotify.

If we mean more generally, including album sales, probably everyone that’s gotten radio play has had that much in sales, at least. Whether they got any of that money is up for debate, though.

This is why I use bandcamp where possible. I at least know the artist is getting way more than they ever would off of me streaming it.

I hate that the preponderance of weird AI makes it difficult to tell if people are talking about Weird Al or weird AI.

Yeah, there’s a guy around the fediverse named CallMeAl. His name is just Al. Doesn’t help that his pic is some kinda computer-ey thing, but yeah. People give him shit pretty regularly

same, Bandcamp is my normal go to outside of direct sales. I do buy a lot of vinyl from indie stores and discogs. Live music is the best way to support a music artist, and I try to buy something from their sales booth. I rarely wear the shirts but it’s fun to add to my collection
