Donald Trump’s administration on Saturday was accused of promoting the Russian flag, on Flag Day.

The Department of Defense over the weekend wished social media a “Happy Flag Day!”

“Let us honor the emblem of our nation and the stars and stripes that unite us all. As we display our nations flag and reflect on the values it represents, let’s celebrate the freedom, courage and resilience that makes our country great,” the department stated Saturday.

The image attached to the post included two small images that appear to represent the Russian flag.

I had to click to the link to see what the issue was. The bald eagle coloration makes you not notice the bird’s design!

    Tweet in question.

I think there are more serious things to write about the trump administration than a graphic design gaff

The question I’m constantly asking myself, is this incompetence or Russian influence?

The answer I usually come up with is “probably both”.

I see the design choice since the background is blue. But the answer is you change the background or separate the flag colors from it. You don’t go transparent because the background is the color you want. It’s a separate thing and it’s always red-white-blue. This is like wearing a green tie if you’re a weather person, except they’re usually competent and do it on purpose.

I’d throw the “porque no los dos” meme up here, but it was deported last week.

To me this looks as much as a gaff as Elon Musk his Nazi salutes. This “gaff” is yet another obvious dog whistle by USA republicans.

A dog whistle in this context is saying or implying something that could be easily denied, but was intended for a certain specific audience to understand, like how a dog hears the whistle but the owner can’t.

So I could say “at around 14:00 I helped an 88 year old man at the protests, we should all start doing the same”

That alone is just a statement about an old man at the protests, the dog whistle is “I was counter protesting with my Nazi friends and we need more of us involved”. Since 14 and 88 are Nazi codes, they’re put in as unnecessary details that wouldn’t normally stand out or really be mentioned in a normal conversation.

This represents any other country with a similar color scheme. Like france, iceland, chile, costa rica, north korea and others. This is honesty a bunch of nothingness, but the left likes to rage over clickbait just as bad as everyone else.

Its classic design used by russia and russia alone. Thin stripes of russian flag colors. If you live with your head under the sand far from russia you wouldn’t know about it.

And this isn’t even the first time. During previous presidency they did something similar with displaying Russian military equipment or something like that.

I heard they were playing “Fortunate Son” during the parade. If that’s true, it HAS to be intentional irony by the DJ. There’s no way anyone could be THAT clueless… right?

The song is about how the singer was drafted to serve in Vietnam; he didn’t have the connections to get out of it. “I ain’t no millionaire’s son.”

Like I said - In LA, people flying Mexican flags aren’t fighting for American Democracy.

And in the Whitehouse, clearly they’re flying Russian flags and not fighting for (but actively dismantling) American Democracy there.

I hate being politically consistent. There’s no cognitive dissonance, but you still get…this.

Thank you for sharing that. That discussion by respondents linking nationalism with Nazism is important for others to be mindful of.

Nah man. They are. Mexican immigrants are American. I used to proudly open a talk with something similar to “I’m proud of this country for many reasons but most of all because of the concept what an American is. Few countries will give you a title with citizenship. Indian and become a citizen? Boom, you’re American. Immigrate from America to Haiti and you won’t be Haitian. You can’t become an Italian. But anyone can be an American” I’ve since refined and now recently rescinded most of those ideas but the core concept holds. A Chinese American waving a Chinese flag is just as American as a white man waving the American flag. It’s great because you can love your home country, others home countries, and your current country (USA) at the same time because it’s a melting pot that was founded by (not originally inhabited by. We can get into that later) immigrants with the eventual promise of opportunity for any others. Wave that Mexican flag. Scream that the US shouldn’t even deport anybody. You’re an American and everyone gets a say and you wouldn’t be waving another flag here if you didn’t love two countries. Or at least, the people in them.

I wasn’t aware you said that, also weird fuckin take. To me, America is a melting pot, fly whatever country’s flag you choose. Take pride in that heritage.

      “White House” is two words.

Political consistency may not be your strongest suit.

Almost all of them are traitors to their country. You won’t see them at protests, and usually they’re just thin-blue-line gang members. They don’t fly the American flag, they fly a rendition of it that’s clearly altered to show their black and white view of the world.
