Some apps have “guest accounts” that you can use to lurk while upgrade downtime on your instance
Meh, you can always browse another instance or pick a new instance to register at as a backup.
in my whole (last I checked) 8 months on Lemmy I’ve never had to move instances because of downtime, even temporarily 🤷♀️
My instance had a few hiccups after it was started, but they were resolved quickly enough.
But it’s disingenuous to pretend that an instance going down is something the fediverse is immune to. If we had account portability or something similar, then maybe.

I think I have like 4 alts that I haven’t used more than once or twice just in case something happens to my main or lemm.ee.
Same ._. I have a kbin,piefed,LW alt but i used to have like three more. (including this account, used to be just an alt)
I only ever use my piefed and LW alt, kbin is just there.
World users will finally have access to things the rest of us have grown accustomed to (like I don’t think world has alt text support). Also, one hour downtime is mighty ambitious (esp with the controversial rank recalculations), must have some mighty server hardware.
I wish .world would publish their hardware, I’ve been quite curious as to what they’re running on lol
