"Netanyahu said Israel is continuing to operate in Lebanon against the Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah, and that Israel “has full right to self-defense, and we will exercise it to the full extent necessary.”

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Health Ministry said an Israeli airstrike on the village of Zefta killed seven people Monday, including a Syrian child. Eight people were wounded. Another strike on the coastal city of Tyre killed five and wounded eight, some of them members of the Lebanese Red Cross, the ministry said."

Thankfully that child and members of the Red Cross were murdered in self defebse so Israel can breath easier. /s

You can’t call it self defense when you are the invading army. The Lebanese have every right to kill every single invader in their land and launch missiles into Israel to make them stop.

“Two weeks” is Trump’s go to amount of time in the future. Just long enough for everybody to forget that he already said “two weeks” 2 weeks ago, then two weeks ago before that, two weeks before that, etc.

Half of Congress is bought off by AIPAC who wants this war. If Trump were getting his ass handed to him this badly in Somalia, we’d be out by now.

While there are a lot of war hawks in the GOP that wanted a war with Iran for Christmas, I’d hope that the sponsors of AIPAC came from a brighter sort, or at least were advised by think tanks enough to know how bad an idea war with Iran is.

The GOP hawks want a full-on invasion and regime change (more puppet-dictator than democracy, still, but certainly not the Islamic republic that is in place right now.) But that would involve a level of commitment akin to the what we saw with the Vietnam war, including conscription (id est the Draft), and that would be super unpopular in the states and would poison the US armed forces from within.

Prior presidents, including Republican ones didn’t push into Iran because all down the line our intelligence sector has been iterating how really-really bad an idea it is.

So when Trump did it, we quickly learned it was a bad idea. Who knew!? ( Narrator: Everybody. Everybody knew.)

But since Trump is in office, our government is currently immune to the advice of its intelligence officers. We may invade Iran with full boots on the ground, and we may invade Cuba. We may do both together and then watch in horror as China invades Taiwan, and the US is too overextended to do a thing.

As per the George W. Bush years, anything can happen.

I hope the midterms will change things. But I think the only real yield we’ll see out of the midterms is an increase in the visible and obvious collapse of democracy in this place, because the fascists don’t seem too concerned at all about, you know, actually doing things to get people to vote for them, which leads me to assume they have very concrete plans to get around that “problem”.

actually doing things to get people to vote for them*, which leads me to assume they have very concrete plans to get around that “problem”.

Not at all, why do you think people voted for them the first time; anti-gay, racism, xenophobia, anti-trans, anti china, anti abortion etal … none of that had anything to do with helping people, it was to hurt other people.

As John Stuart Mills points out stupid people are inherinetly.conservative, not the only criteria to be conservative but if you’re stupid (using Cipolla’s definition, 3) they’re probably conservative and we’re back to 1

            You’re doing 1 and 4 and they’re 3 and 5 and will keep doibg that… why ? because they’re stupid.

These are Cipolla’s five fundamental laws of stupidity:

            1. Always and inevitably, everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.

            2. The probability that a certain person (will) be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.

            3. A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.

            4. Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular, non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places, and under any circumstances, to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.

            5. A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person.

They don’t have concrete plans. This Iran War bullshit illustrates that.

They’re evil, but they’re also incompetent. The one thing Trump wants more than anything is to punish his enemies. He has had control of the DOJ for a year and a half, is already on his second AG, and hasn’t successfully jailed any of his political opponents. The best they’ve done is get some financial settlement out of John Bolton. There are hundreds of high profile Democrats, lawyers, media figures, etc. that Trump and his supporters want in prison or executed, but they can’t get it done.

It’s hard to steal elections. It takes competence and the ability to execute complex plans. They don’t have the requisite human capital. Trump has caused a catastrophic brain drain on the right.

Well… ineptitude does not preclude having a plan, or even getting parts of said plan implemented - albeit chaotically and ham-fistedly. To wit: https://project2025.observer/en

P2025 was publicly available on the open web without any auth or paywalls, by intention, since shortly after orangeboi lost in 2020.

The more I find out about how he and Hegseth got roped into this war by Israel, the more I realize that these dopes are stupider and more ignorant than I gave them credit for. They literally have no idea of how to govern, interact with other people, or even behave like a normal human adult.

They’ve spent their lives being handed money by their parents and grifting the dumbest humans to ever walk the face of the Earth.

Nothing in their lives has ever forced them to be anything other than stupid.

Our capitalist society has resulted in wealthy dynasties of very, very stupid offspring and grifting weasels.
