It’s not just who’s in power. It’s who put them in power and who decided not to even vote cuz they apathetically thought it’s not their job to give a shit about life apparently and prefer to watch the world burn.

These asshats are on a new level of crazy I’m ashamed to know exists in humanity.

Canadians can do a lot better.

Until I see bigger lineups at A&W (A&W Canada is actually 100% Canadian, no royalties or anything to the USA) than McDonalds, Burger King, etc, not even close to being a start on the way to good enough.

I can see lots of people checking labels, but we need to get back to “US apples rotting on Canadian shelves” levels of action again. I want to hear more about US businesses begging Canadians to come back. I want to hear Trump threatening Canada for being anti-America. I want it to be crystal clear where Canada stood.

You’re not seeing as much US produce rotting because less places are buying it now. Last winter we were still dealing with having to not choose US oranges, but this winter the grocers have found alternatives. I’ve had plenty of South African oranges and cantaloupe this winter.

That’s fair I’ve seen a lot more non-US produce lately. But there is still a fuck-ton of it on the shelves. Apples and lettuce being two big offenders where I am. And…yams? Been dying for a goddamn yam for months but apparently only the US knows how to grow a damn yam.

There are great Canadian greenhouse lettuce growers putting out awesome product now. I hope we can see those guys selling out while the $4.99 head of lettuce from Ameristan turns brown waiting for a buyer that never comes.

I mean, what do you want us to do about it? What do you think it’s like having said child rapist as your leader when you didn’t vote for him? He has his own military force running around rounding people up and killing others. The news has only just covered 2 of them. 2025 saw more deaths due to ICE than its entire history.

It’s not the people you should point the finger at either. Do you even know the term “Gerrymandering?” Look it up. These elections are determined 16 years beforehand AND now Trump is trying to rewrite district lines so that Republicans have more districts that are even more partisan. On top of that, he’s threatening voters with violence. He’s already threatened to send military to voting stations.

On top of all of that, I don’t care what country you’re from, America has a different political system than ANY other country in the world. I don’t think even most Americans understand this. America’s two party system is ruled by money and bribes (we call these brides “lobbying”). Basically, corporations give money or trips or items to judges and politicians to get them to do what they want. And even our 4 party leaders (imagine you have 2 parliaments - one based off of population size for your state, and another where every state gets the same number of votes) are the leaders precisely because they have the most money that can be used for campaign ads. Oh yeah, don’t get me started on insider trading of our politicians. Everything I’ve described in this paragraph is 100% legal.

I’m not trying to tell people to not vote, but the truth is that in America, the land of the free and the land of democracy, our votes don’t matter, primarily because of the gerrymandering. So when you see Americans saying they’re fed up, don’t act like we aren’t fed up “enough.” We have people dying at protests. Our state level and local governments are looking at what happened in Iran and are waiting for Trump to do the same. He’s basically threatened it if any ICE agent dies.

what do you want us to do about it?

Something. Anything. Because doing almost fucking nothing while saying that you can’t do anything isn’t working, and will bring you back less than nothing.

Also, haha, don’t try to play yourselves off as the victims here. Your country has had decades to not have a shit voting system or war mongering government/ruling class but time and fucking time again you guys just accept that bullshit with glee.
Other countries, and the people from those countries that are being hurt and killed, don’t have that ability to vote in your country. They are the real victims in all of this.

Plus you’ve had centuries of the 2nd amendment, thus giving you the right and ability to rise up against tyrants. Well tyrants are there right now and all the rest of the world is seeing are crickets, tumbleweeds, memes, excuses, and performances. Doing nothing is an affront to all those dead kids in all those school shootings because, for decades and decades, it was "Yeah, those dead kids in those school shootings were unfortunate, but we need our guns in case of {insert bullshit reason here}”. Well in stumbles a bumbling, dementia riddled, pants shitting, orange child raping, corrupt russian stooge of a tyrant and what happens…nothing. Fuck all.

NO, you don’t get to play the victim.

You’re silent bystanders at best, NOT victims.
Maybe I’ll agree that you are traumatised and abused bystanders, but not real victims. No way.

“People feel threatened, and some are being killed on our streets by our government.”
So fuck. People are being threatened and killed by your government that are in entirely different streets in entirely different countries. And on the open seas.
          Fucks sake.

I suppose you’re right that your country is similar or has similarities. I’m not saying that other countries don’t have problems with their own governments or money. But that’s not what I was illustrating here. What I’m illustrating is why the fair elections turn out how they do. Would I say that Russia is less corrupt or less ruled by money? No. Ukrain? Obviously not.

What I’m illustrating is that America, despite being “the land of the free,” is very much not free. And this idea that all Americans are at fault for Donald being elected isn’t true. About 47% of its population didn’t vote for him (before you say anything I do understand how elections work) and now he is tearing our republic/democracy apart.

And yes, it always looks from outsider perspectives that Americans are not studied or that we don’t travel or that we don’t pay attention to outside politics. We do. Believe me. So when I say we have a very different political system, I’d argue it’s true. And it’s true for every other country. No political system (or even government) is the same. And we are all just as helpless as each other. Like, in America we don’t have parties sprouting up like Russia, Germany, Australia, etc. we don’t have a dictatorship like Russia, North Korea. We don’t have three separate countries inside of one like the UK - we have over 50. It’s like if the EU was one country.

So it doesn’t help that you’re assuming I don’t pay attention outside my boarders. We literally just invaded Venezuela and kidnapped their leader (without our congress agreeing to it, which is required by law). America has so much power in world politics. We have military bases spread across the world; it wouldn’t even require us dispatching troops from America to stage a coup in another country. And we’ve already done it or tried to do it: look at the Philippines or Cuba (Bay of Pigs as we call it) or literally anywhere in the Middle East. I would be an idiot to not pay attention. It’s fucking scary.

And to give you another example, these corporations that I’m talking about don’t just mess with my economy and government. These chip shortages you’re seeing, that’s the companies in my country causing them. China not exporting chips that are used for cars anymore? That’s America’s fault.

              It isn’t and never was.

So it doesn’t help that you’re assuming I don’t pay attention outside my borders.

No, I didn’t say that. I felt as if you were saying the problems of bribery, corruption, unfair elections, systemic violence by government on its citizens are unique problems of the US government. It isn’t, we have also seen them, and I do sympathise with American people facing these things.

we are all just as helpless as each other.

People have power. Even the most oppressed people have fought for themselves, and in many cases, have won.

In the podcast/television show Comedy Bang! Bang! there is a running joke that host Scott Aukerman is always misnamed. The names are things like Yacht Rockerman, Hot Saucerman, Shock Jockerman, Stop Clockerman, Shop Talkerman, Flip Flopperman, and so on. They generally rhyme with “Scott Aukerman.”

Snot Flickerman is definitely inspired by the Aukerman nicknames, although it doesn’t perfectly fit since Flickerman doesn’t rhyme with Aukerman. However, in my own headcanon, Snot Flickerman is an animated, audacious television news anchor voiced by Tom Kenny.

I hope this illuminates my stupid fucking username.

Fake News! Your great President, ME! has been the most peaceful President in the HISATORY OF THE COUNTRY. 8 WARS SOLVED - TRUMP, MANY MORE PREVENTED -TRUMP. Even the winner of the last Noble Peace Prize says TRUMP should have won it. Lowest crime in 150 years. Strongest Boarder in HISTORY. I even won the NEWEST, MOST UP TO DATE PEACE PRIZE. None of this would have happened under CROOKED JOE BIDEN, the worst and MOST CORRUPT President ever. The FCC should look into this ENTIRELY CORRUPT and BIASED FAKE NEWS organization. How willing is CA to take US refugees if they’re willing to swear allegiance to CA?

I can think of a few people I know in the US who would love to emigrate to Canada to escape the political spiral wrought by this administration, but it seems like Canada isn’t all that willing to make it easy for them.

The chances of an American making a successful refugee claim in Canada are vanishingly small. Things would have to get a lot worse in the US for this to be a realistic outcome.

However, Americans can apply for permanent residency in Canada, just like anyone else. There is a points system. You’re more likely to be accepted if you’re young, you have an advanced degree, you speak both French and English, etc.

Can’t even blame you. Even if we suddenly fixed our crack head behavior one day then what? Are there still cultural forces that will lead us to just start stealing the wires out of the world’s walls in 4 years? How long until until “somehow crackheads returned”?

It wasn’t supposed to be like this. We were raised to be different from the dumb shit that came before. I wanted to be a good neighbor and build a future that didn’t seem shitty to bring kids into.

Yeah, it seems to me Americans are a bunch of selfish narcissists ruled over by a selfish narcissist. Even those that claim to be against Trump are too obsessed with their self image to even vote for the politcal opposition, let alone do anything more significant to resist fascism.
